    Bro. Jeff,

Bro. Mike was right about the two Friendship Assocs. I know the one you are referring to, and it is "Old" Friendship. I was asking Bro, Mike about the Friendship Assoc, that split, and that side, I guess, never did get back in correspondence with the others, since "Old" Friendship is with y'all. I did not know that there were two sides to them, until Bro. Keith Deel sent me a minute of theirs. I think they had a church in Washington state, if I remember correctly.

IOW, at one time, there was one Friendship Assoc., when they split, in I think 1972(???), the ones in your correspondence added "Old" to Friendship, so to keep the confusion down.

So, Bro. Mike, is Thornton Union the only other assoc that this side of the Friendship Assoc. is in correspondence with? I know the Orig. Mt. Liberty is no longer in correspondence with Thorn. U. I hate to hear when things tour sour between assocs.

Would this Friendship assoc be closer in doctrine to Sardis, NS, NNS, etc. or to SGA, Bethel, OML?? And one more question, what are the closest churches to me, living in Crum, WVa?? Thanks again!!

    Friendship Assn.

The TU-ML do not correspond but they still preach together, The Doctrine of the Friendship would be a mixture of both sides not as Arminian as NNS, I have seen circular letters that were on Election and Predestination but they also have ministers that are more of the hybird mixture, this same mixture exists in almost all of the NS--Union correspondence and to some extent in the Indian Bottoms , Sardis had some Old Brothers that were highly esteemed that held to Free Grace ,New Salem and Union still do, they hang on for various reasons but we have made a way for them to come to the other side if they wish.I see no movement for reconciliation, of the Old Regular Factions .The heart of the matter is this our side believes in regeneration before conversion, faith and repentence .Thus a man repents because he has life they advocate that all men have faith (if that be true you would have a universal salvation doctrine ,which they deny) and they repent to obtain life, we are Primitive Baptist they are freewills with eternal security attached (not all ministers on that side believe in freewill, but they all fellowship it, and if they try to correct it, they are labeled an absoluter or hardshell) So there is no way they can walk together in unity, but I would ask for you to research and see which side is closer to the doctrine of the first Regular Baptist also if you have the History of Regular Baptist look at the Union Assn. Articles of Faith where did they come from and look at the Biblical References given, look at the Confession of Faith on Bro.Bobby Scotts web page on History to his credit he did not try to smooth it over or omit that confession. You will at once see who is preaching the original RB doctrine. Elder Slone:smilewinkgrin::praying:

Bro. Mike, how is it that these two do not correspond with each other, but still preach with each other? I always thought that correspondence was the "channel" by which each association held fellowship with each other. This is quite confusing to a young "whipper snapper", eventhough I am 40.

I Have have read that NS had churches that held to varying beliefs about predestination. I did not know that Union did, though. I figured that the ones who left when Union split in 1961 would have involved all that formed Bethel, and none would have stayed with Union.

I know what you mean about there being no resolution of this matter. I hold that regeneration happens when one is born again, and not prior. But, you see it your way, and I will not infringe on your way of believing scriptures.

I just think that we, being CHRISTians, can someway, somehow, find a way to get along, if only we leave "pride" at the door, when we come in. We aren't going to agree with everything we hear, Bro. Mike, and I'd venture to guess that you probably have heard some things preached by your SGA Brethern that you didn't entirely agree with. It's not about what we disagree with, but what we agree with that should matter. You take from Genesis-Revelation, there are waaaaay more things that we will agree on than we disagree on, Bro. Mike. I pray that you have a blessed weekend, Bro. Mike. I love you!!

    Preach Together

Those associations did not declare a non- fellowship, they with held correspondence and still have an indirect correspondence through SGA, On our side of old regular the minister chooses who and where he will preach, as long as he keeps the order. We hold regeneration and conversion to be two different things, we believe Peter was regenerated before he was
converted.Have you ever read Elder Joe Halls circular letter in the blue book?? I am very narrow minded it when it comes to doctrine but you can be narrow minded when you are right:laugh: LoL The Bible is a very large book, I would like to meet with you sometime in a more private setting and look at the scriptures that the Baptist people wrest over.I would like for you to at least see where the other side is coming from, I think this is the main problem, people do not know, the differences in the two sides and are not willing to disicus the scriptures. Doesn't it strike anyone else as being extremely prideful when each faction (all of whom have solid verses of scripture they quote to support the view they hold to be truth) claims that only they have perfect understanding of these controversial doctrines? Isn't it much better to let the blood of our Lord wash away our pride, and accept that each of us must be wrong about some point of doctrine we've simply misunderstood? It pains me when I hear about the various arguing that goes on between the different baptist churches, much less within the Old Regular Baptists.

I was visiting with a cousin of mine in Dorton, KY a few weeks ago and he just about fell over when I told him that I had been in an Old Regular Baptist church that has an indoor baptistry. You would have thought I had told him they were bowing down and worshipping a golden calf.

Well Brother, we have come a long ways. Several churches in the ORBs have outdoor baptistries now.............shudder the thought!! [IMG] [IMG][IMG]LOL

I, FTR, see nothing wrong with an indoor baptistry. The outdoor ones I think are better though. That way, you don't have to worry about the wooden floor around the indoor baptistries rotting out from water damage. But, to me, an indoor baptistry is acceptable, too. Just cover'em up when you bury'em in their liquid grave.

    Bro. Mike,

Does this mean that TU-OML can still preach together, but would not be able to take communion together? I am trying to get my mind around this topic, but to me, if they fall out of correspondence, it has always been my belief that they would no longer preach together. Would you please elaborate on this for me? I love you, Bro. Mike.

    Thanks Brother Mike,
The Lord has always been more gracious and merciful to me than I deserve Brother, not that I expect it, but I know I have never deserved His Goodness upon me.

Pray for me and mine as the Lord would lay us upon your hearts.

    May God Richly Bless

    UPDATE:

The Indian Bottom Assoc. of ORBs are having their 116th annual assoc. meeting. Friday's session was pretty "testy", to say the least. The topic of "rebaptizing" a CHRISTian for membership that came from an non-ORB church/assoc, was bought back up. The line has been drawn in the sand, or I think it has come this far. Please pray for us that we all(on both sides of this debate), seek God's face and council as we do the churchwork this morning!!

.......................{thought better to not air this on-line}. I do not wish to offend my elder Brethern who wouldn't appreciate airing our business online.

Just found out the other day that the Sardis Association lost a church. The name of it was Enon. It was in Pike county, Ky, around Blackberry. I hate to see any church have to close their doors, but when you are down to only one member, and they have trouble getting there due to their age, and health, you can't run it properly. I pray that God will help the Sardis through this rough time. :tear::tear:

I found out that Sardis has lost another church, and I think it was Okecheekobee(sp?) in Florida. However, they put another church, Bride of Christ church(formerly UB) under watchcare for one year. If things go well during this next year, when they convene next September, they will become a full fledged member of the Sardis.

Correction; I stopped by my aunt's house yesterday, and she had a Sardis 2011 minute, and I read and found out that it was the Enon church in Blackberry, Pike county, Ky, and the Charity church in Ga that were dissolved.

Per the 2012 Sardis Association minute, they lost another church, Southern Home in Sparr, Fla. I hate to see any association lose churches. :tear: :tear:
