If I could only choose one translation I would go with the NKJV (aka KJV1982 as per Pastor KevinR!). I am really enjoying the new HCSB, but I am much more familiar with the NKJV, which I have used for over 20 years. Bruce
One Bible only, which one!

Where is your proof of all those NKJV departures from the TR?
Repeating a lie then refusing to repent of it is the same as lying yourself. You should either substantiate your charges against the NKJV or else repent of your attacks on a valid translation of God's Word. -
Askjo, Are you going to repent of spreading lies?
-
If I were limited to only one English translation I'd probably go with the ESV for it's accuracy and poetic quality. 2nd choice would be NASB '95.
Having said that, even though my HCSB is still less than a year old I'd sure miss it! -
But do I get to keep my commentaries at home to use? -
But do I get to keep my commentaries at home to use? </font>[/QUOTE]But i thought the NASB
was the best of the commentaries ;) -

I hope you simply haven't seen my repeated challenges to you on this and aren't instead being hindered by pride or self-deception.
I ask patience from others. Askjo has a habit of throwing out false charges then disappearing when challenged only to reappear later with the same false charges. -
I have a feeling that this is a simple answer. Askjo is wrong and he has no way to prove he is not.
The NKJV is very clear that its NT is from the TR.
I have two interlinear TR's and have yet to find any differences in questionable areas. -
God's Word, AV1611.
-
Amen! Praise God that you have the 1611 as your sword!
Hebrew 4:12 For the word of God is quicke and powerfull, and sharper then any two edged sword, pearcing euen to the diuiding asunder of soule and spirit, and of the ioynts and marrowe, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. (KJV1611) -
This habit is tantamount to lying. He impugns God's Word in the process. -
Boy it would be tough to pick one .I seemed to use the NASB and the HCSB alot the last past year .I also like the ESV .I would really have to think on it for awhile sorry .

NKJV...or maybe the KJV...
-
Phillip and Scott J,
You all accuse me for lying, false blah.
Matthew 15:5 KJV
But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;
Matthew 15:5 NKJV
But you say, "Whoever says to his father or mother, "Whatever profit you might have received from me is a gift to God "—
Matthew 15:5 Textus Receptus Greek Text
υμεις δε λεγετε ος αν ειπη τω πατρι η τη μητρι δωρον ο εαν εξ εμου ωφεληθης και ου μη τιμηση τον πατερα αυτου η την μητερα αυτου
Why did the NKJV ADD “God” on this verse WITHOUT the TR Greek text? I read many posts saying, “the NKJV FOLLOWS the TR Greek text” many times. Are you lying to say that? Shame on you!
Now you look 3 verses above: The TR agrees with the KJV and disagrees with the NKJV. -
Askjo quotes the scripture:
-------------------------------------
Matthew 15:5 NKJV
But you say, "Whoever says to his father or mother,
"Whatever profit you might have received from me
is a gift to God "—
-------------------------------------
To be fair, it must be quoted (italics by
the translators of the nKJV):
Matthew 15:5 NKJV
But you say, "Whoever says to his father or mother,
"Whatever profit you might have received from me
is a gift to God "—
"gift to God" here translates:
G1435
δῶρον
dōron
do'-ron
A present; specifically a sacrifice: - gift, offering.
Mat 15:5 (Geneva Bible 1585):
But ye say, Whosoeuer shall say to father or mother,
By the gift that is offered by me,
thou maiest haue profite,
note that it is the 'me' that does the 'offered'.
Mat 15:5 (KJV1611 Edition):
But yee say, Whosoeuer shall say to his father or his mother,
It is a gift by whatsoeuer thou mightest bee profited by me,
note that it is the 'me' that does the 'profited'.
Which is best?
the me is about the offered; the me is about the profited? -
askjo quotes Matthew 15:5 KJV
5 But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;
Then the NKJV
5 "But you say, 'Whoever says to his father or mother, "Whatever profit you might have received from me is a gift to God" --
but askjo fails to mention (as Ed points out) that it is italics indicating by the NKJV translators that it is not in the original language text.
However
KJV Luke 20:16 He shall come and destroy these husbandmen, and shall give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid.
Then
NKJ Luke 20:16 "He will come and destroy those vinedressers and give the vineyard to others." And when they heard it they said, "Certainly not!"
The KJV adds the words "God forbid" (without italicising) which is not found in this entire verse (Luke 20:16) of the TR (presumably Scrivener), or any other Greek text!
So, by the letter of the law, in this case The TR agrees with the NKJV and disagrees with the KJV.
askjo, this does not have to do with the textual family used in the translation but involves standard practices in translation from one language to another.
All translators take these "liberties" to bring across idiom/nuance which they feel is necessary to the full meaning of the passage in question.

the kjBible, the ONLY Bible I've ever used.
-
Although i was saved after reading the Gospel according to John from the NIV, i would have to say ESV now. I was using one for my personal Bible studies and it started falling apart, so i went back to the NASB...but now i'm missing the ESV text.
ESV is my vote.
