He was my childhood sports hero. The only two home runs that I hit in Little League were after eating an O-Henry candy bar before the games.

I was very fortunate, that almost all the Brave games were telecast where I grew up. I got to closely follow the second half of his career.

And he was better than Barry Bonds could have dreamed of being. He did it without steroids.

He was an amazingly brave man who continued to perform in spite of death threats as he drew closer to Babe Ruth's record.

Even if you take away his 755 homers, he would still would have had his 3000 hits.

Hank Aaron just put out an ad a few days ago showing him getting a vaccination and promoting it, I'm not saying the vaccination killed him, but I'm seeing the anti-vaccers are having a field day with this.

I am a fan of Major League Baseball, my team (the Angels of LA, or Anaheim or California) has a great player too that did not always play for a great team. MLK said Jackie Robinson started the civil rights movement, but in my opinion Hammering Hank helped it along. I have reached the stage of life where my childhood heroes are passing away. And Abe's instruction rings in my ears, "it is for us the living...."
