I am continually amazed that these men involved with abuse are not immmeditatly defrocked. While children are being abused, have been abused, the pope is deeply concerned and giving the matter the "closest" attention.

I agree, these priest should've been defrocked and turned over to the local authorities. And since the Roman Catholic Church is the world's largest religious body, and whose priests are largely required to be celibate, these incidents of sexual abuse will be more frequent and more publicized.

But I would say that allowing Roman Catholic priests to marry before ordination would go a long way in reducing the numbers of sexual abuse, although this won't solve the problem, as many Protestant pastors also are guilty of this sin as well.

I do agree, pedophiles have no place in the ministry, period.

A well publicized ordination of a 'repentant' convicted pedophile in, I believe, a southern state recently took place over many objections. Although I do believe we become 'new creatures in Christ' I can't see placing someone with this in their background in the position which undoubtedly will bring them around children.

This goes much, much deeper. The Garda Siochana (Irish police force) were in open collusion with the church. Instead of dealing with crimes they were made aware of they told the church to deal with it. It is pretty clear that the Irish government also knew about this stuff for decades.

I am amazed at the cavalier attitude of the priests and bishops involved. One of them, when this last report first came out, appealed to the population for understanding for the paedophile priests, saying that they were victims of their time.

It is true, however that the Catholic church has no monopoly on this kind of wickedness.

Any cleric, whether they be Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant, a Rabbi, etc, that abuses a minor should be immediately defrocked and turned over to the civil authorities for prosecution, with full cooperation of the religious institution which ordained them.

But it's an error to assume that allowing priests to marry will reduce the numbers of abuse. There's no correlation between pedophiles and their marital state. The majority of pedophiles are married or in monogamous adult sexual relationships. An abuse victim is very often related to the pedophile (an uncle, a stepfather, etc).

No, it is sin and it is a choice. You catch a disease and have no control over it, but all sin is a choice that we make. Whether it is pedophelia, homosexuality, or whatever, it is still a choice made by the idividual, not something that just "happens".

It seems the pope isn't "disturbed" enough! The creeps who did this should be removed IMMEDIATELY and prosecuted and the RCC should financially pay for counseling for the innocent victims of these crimes.

When Catholics visit this board, and they do even though they aren't allowed to participate, do you really think that when they read the garbage posted by Catholic basher's, that haven't a clue what the Catholic Church really teaches, that it is going to win them over? It just turns them off. Referring to people as heretics and being a member of a cult doesn't communicate that a person has the love of Jesus in their heart. It communicates hatred and bigotry. I've noticed several Baptist's say goodbye to this board of late because they are sick of reading the garbage posted by Catholic haters.

It is easy and cheap to accuse bigotry and hatred. Often it is used in retaliation because someone does not like the position of another. The claims of heresy and cults indicate neither. They simply indicate a complete set of false teachings. Why Catholics want to come and read a board that is set as a Baptist is beyond me. I would not go to a catholic board and accuse them of hatred and bigotry. In fact I do not go to catholic boards at all. It serves no purpose. What is obvious is that when a catholic comes here they have an agenda. And if they are just going to have to understand that we have differing doctrines of which we see no tolerance available. No, it has nothing to do with being anti-Catholic. These are undeniable, historical, documented facts.

The fact is that there has been an institution-wide cover up within the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church is known to have paid off victims to keep quiet, threatened them with ex-communication (which, in the Catholic Church means a loss of any hope of salvation), as routinely hides pedophile priests from prosecution by merely sending them to other parishes without even informing parents and families in that parish of the predator in their midst.

In all fairness, several of us showed you what the Catholic Church teaches from the Catholic Church's own Catechism and documents and yet, you still denied that the Catholic Church teaches those things. So either you're being outright dishonest or you really have no idea what your own religion teaches.

I think it's more than just a little hypocritical that Catholics have no problem with the Catholic Church declaring us anathema, stating that we cannot be saved, stating that our churches aren't real churches or that our pastors aren't real pastors, or that we don't have "the fullness of truth", but the moment one Christian disagrees with any Catholic doctrine or practice, the Catholics start whining about what mean old bullies we are and try to paint us as being "hateful and bigoted".
