Michael Moore is quoted as saying "I think people should start to practice the words President Romney."
Do you believe Moore is right?

I just can't see them getting the numbers. I suspect Romney/Ryan will carry more states, but can't see the electoral votes working our unless R&R carry every state leaning their way and every state in question.
This should have been an easy GOP win and they had plenty of folks who could have pulled it off.
Of course, that is based on right now - that could still change by November. -

There is so much power in a sitting president that it takes alot to unseat him. It all depends on the next few weeks and how desperate the democrats and President Obama are to keep, retain and expand their power. -

I've been saying it for over a year...Romney is a terrible candidate who will get beat in November.
The irony here is that this is completely a winnable for Republicans, they've just nominated a terrible candidate. Had they gotten a better candidate, then President Obama would be really sweating it. -
I don't know. Romney and Ryan are beginning to take the gloves off. We'll see if they learned their lesson from McCain's defeat.

Rubio will be a factor in the future but for now does not really have a track record of accomplishments. Huckabee wouldn't have a chance. While I personally liked Santorum, I don't think he would be able to bring in the moderates and undecided voters.
Ryan would have been a decent choice, but then he'd have to go with an older VP candidate. Who would that have been?
The more I think about it, the more I think Romney is the right guy at the right time for America. They need a guy with a history of turning around failing enterprises and Romney has that history with the Olympics, numerous companies he's turned around while at Bain Capital, and even his record in Massachusetts. One more gigantic advantage for Romney--he can raise the money necessary to compete in a presidential race. This is probably too often overlooked by Romney critics within his own party. -

- Chris Christie is the obvious lead. When he decided not to get into the race is when the RNC lost the White House.
- Bobby Jindal would have been the ideal candidate but stayed out of the race.
- Kay Bailey Hutchinson. She would never have considered it because she's better than all this idiocy, but she's a beast of a candidate who is articulate and reasonable.
- The fourth guy, who is beyond a moderate Republican but would have swept up huge support, is Michael Bloomberg. We've not seen how fast he would have garnered consensus.
Santorum would have been a greater disaster than Romney. Rubio doesn't have the experience (of course neither did then Senator Obama.) Huckabee is interesting, he might have had a better chance than the others. However his Foxnews stuff would have been a problem of perception.
Of course I still think if Condalisa Rice had gotten into the race, or gotten the VP ticket, this might be different. Man, if the RNC had nominated her for the top of the ticket and Paul Ryan as VP this would be completely different.
The issue major issue for the RNC is perception right now. They can't offer their side of the argument (littler government, better business environment, etc) because they can't get over the perception. If they had Colin Powell stand up instead of Eastwood that would have been huge...heck, if they had a soldier with a Congressional Medal of Honor walk out on stage and talk for five minutes instead of Eastwood that would have been huge. But this is the trouble of the RNC. They're stuck in their system and perception.
That said I don't think he's as worried as some hope. MSNBC and CNN have been trying to call the election since May. The electoral maps are a daily excursion and they've been hedging their bets. President Obama is looking at the polling (we'll see good polls after the weekend) and seeing Romney didn't get a 5-7 point bounce. That is a good thing.
However, if Romney can hit the talking points: economy, jobs, unemployment, gas prices, strategic vision, energy policy, traditional marriage, traditional values, anti-abortion, etc he can do damage to President Obama's hold on undecideds. I'm just glad I don't live in a battleground state.
If Romney were to fly out for a day and meet with troops in Afghanistan and Iraq he'd make big headlines...especially while President Obama is prattling on at the convention. (This is totally on the table since the President didn't take the week off but was actively campaigning during the RNC convention which is an unwritten no-no.)
I don't think Romney has the stuff. He's too establishment, too rich, too Republican. He has tied up the evangelical base though. I don't see him winning. -

I just don't get why the Romney campaign doesn't show two videos:
1. the clip of then candidate-Obama stating that if things aren't better in 4 years the public should fire him. Just run it with a list of leading economic indicators and play it in all their media buys.
2. A running video of promises made, promises broken. Just line up actual clips from President Obama's first campaign where he promised major things that didn't happen.
I just don't get why campaigns don't default to easy things. Bill Clinton got it when he was running against Bush Sr. -

Romney got a 6 point bounce and Bloomberg could not get elected if his life depended on it. He nothing but a Rino and a far left wing liberal at that.
