sorry but I see the "individual' interpretation as incorrect.
first try changing individual to singular. one
God delivers knowledge in two parts. dual
knowledge is comprised of wisdom and understanding.
delivered by Jesus christ and the Holy spirit to any believer in TWO seperate events. there are people who want to enter the kingdom of God and desire to take from God..the knowledge of God. mostly by listening to true believers witness via word. and of course today..simply by reading a book called the "bible". and say that they understand. (because they can read?) and unfortunately without the experiences of the TWO events..receiving the wisdom..holy spirit to the individuals spirit. and the understanding through jesus our lord...
via the trial. the testing of the individuals Faith..
if by then an individuals desires to know more..the gifts of wisdom and understanding drives the person to generate a personal mental message that they can repeat to others with. thats where the bible comes in handy because it contains paralleled experiences of others that we can use to express our own experiences. in our case..in english.
its always been that way..remember the two symbols in the OT. the alter and the laver.. the blueprint of our spiritual heaven.
peter is simply saying the false prophets want knowledge but the have attained it by stealing it. they take from God instead of simply asking for it.
and of course going through the governmental avenues by way of Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
the two witnesses.
anyone as individuals can contain "truth".
but they have to ask for it..not take it.
did you happen to notice that this letter is a warning to "children" in christ. much like 1 john.
the trial of these peoples faith to accept jesus as lord hasnt occured yet..
