"Why didn't Jesus convert one scribe, or one person who could hire a scribe, or someone who was interested in what he said but didn't convert but still had his words written down first-hand, or a "newspaper report" who would do that?"

2. The universe already had a ring-side seat for it.
3. Very likely that will get "replayed" at a key moment in human history where all mankind will see it.
4. God shows up "in person" shaking the mountain and thundering the Ten Commandments to Israel - still they end up choosing rebellion 40 days later. Atheists have not thought this through. -

Even "first-hand newpaper reports" are often wrong, biased, intentionally lying, and more. Man is flawed - even the best.
God used the Holy Spirit to inspire the Bible - it is God breathed. That's better than any scribe. -

And they are subject to the John 12:32 "draw all mankind unto Me" that Christ speaks of... anyway -
The "GOSPEL" is the newspaper, the "good news". Keep in mind were dealing in a time were maybe 97% of the world is illiterate. No printing press, Learning to read is a luxury as is having paper, lucky to get papyrus after week of work. If you look at the early manuscripts they would get rid of vowels just to save space.
Non-Christians Jews and Roman did write down reports of Jesus obviously not always in positive light.
Ink and Paper wasn't the only means of communication. Jesus also instituted The Eucharist, communion which is a continuation of an on going command still found today.
As a Historical figure he got pretty good coverage compared to folks who lived in his day.
