Los Angeles, CA (AHN) – Alternative rock group Red Hot Chili Peppers have branded President George W. Bush a ‘liar’, stating the president needs to be impeached.
Bassist Flea says in an interview that he hopes the United States does not go to war with Iran, as it would be a ‘bloodbath’, according to NME.com.
In a message on the band's official website, Flea says: "George W Bush should definitely be impeached. He is a liar and his lies have bought misery to millions of people and bought no good to anyone except for the corporate oil billionaires who are making huge profits. They are profiting during wartime - that is unscrupulous and terribly sad."
He explains: "W Bush has made the world a much less safe place. Before the war Iraq was not a place for terrorists. Saddam Hussein, brutal dictator that he was, was secular and had nothing to do with Al Qaeda and was sanctioned to death and had no power outside of his country. Now it is a breeding ground for terrorism and anti-Americanism is at an all time high all over the world and the people of Iraq are no better off at all."
In the lengthy post, Flea adds: "George W Bush has sent American soldiers over there to be maimed and killed only to serve his selfish oil company needs and for his ego. The administration's line that they were over there because they wanted to spread democracy and freedom is nothing else besides a lie. If they had any interest at all in the well being of other human beings they would be doing what they could for people who desperately need and would love help in Africa."
Turning his attention to Iran, the bass player says: "I pray to God that George W Bush and his administration does not invade Iran. It would be a bloodbath. Why don't they just leave the Iranians alone and go through the United Nations and work on making the United Nations as strong and as just as possible.
"An invasion of Iran would be the worst possible thing that could happen. I pray to God that it does not happen."
Red Hot Chili Peppers are due to release their new album ‘Stadium Arcadium’ on May 8. A summer tour is also in the works.

I don't think that Bush lied. I think he was badly mistaken about Iraq having been deceived, as millions of us were, by the neocons.
I don't think he should be impeached based on his Iraq mistake. -

I don't think we should take advice from heroin users.
-
Hey, I'm just impressed they stopped shooting up long enough to know who was in office. -
-
-
I suppose you have proof of that. -
No proof needed, it was a intentionally ridiculous statement to counter a unintentionally ridiculous statement.
I wouldn't say Bush is a liar, I would say he is selective about the intelligence he chooses to use/ hear. But I don't think that makes him a liar. In some minds that may be the case. I don't know why but for some reason I am giving him the benefit of the doubt on this one, again! -
The difference is that Curtis' statement was true.

Flea: I Nearly Killed Myself After Slovak's Overdose
RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS bassist FLEA nearly killed himself with excessive heroin usage after his late bandmate HILLEL SLOVAK's tragic overdose.
RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS bassist FLEA nearly killed himself with excessive heroin usage after his late bandmate HILLEL SLOVAK's tragic overdose. The GIVE IT AWAY rocker - real name MICHAEL BALZARY - turned to a lethal cocktail of class A drugs after the band's increasing heroin use led to the death of original guitarist Slovak and the institutionalisation of drummer JACK IRONS.
Flea confesses, "Hillel's death was just devastating. I was so shocked when it happened, I just fell on the floor gasping for air. As we started getting older and drugs became more prevalent, Hillel started having a deep sadness to him. "I was just hanging on by a thread at that point, I had been so demolished by drug use. For weeks after Hillel died I kept getting out of my mind. Then a month later I got sober. It was such a life-altering loss. And a horrible disfiguring of our band dynamic. -
The Dixie Chicks did do something similar. The biggest difference is the fan base. Country fans tend to be more conservative (hence, more often Republican, super-patriotic, etc.).
Chili Pepper fans? I'd think you'd be dealing with more liberal, younger fans who probably aren't as averse to "alternative" behaviors.
The Chili Peppers will probably gain points with their fans for this. -
Didn't Bush himself admit to drinking too much? I mean that doesn't mean he is a liar or that what he has to say is without value just has a former herion addicted rocker is not automatically a liar and without merit in what he has to say.

But it's "possible" everyone on this board is, too.
It's also "possible" to slur anyone at all with a "possibly". But it's a cheap cowardly way to do it. -
Joseph Botwinick -
I believe that since being married to Laura he has been a teetottler...
I didn't dig too deep but...
But, then this isn't the thread for hashing out the truth of that particular situation... -
We had saddam sabre rattling and taunting us. Claiming he had all these weapons and would wipe us off the map if we came close to him...
(Even if he hadn't already previously proven he had had such weapons by using them on his own people.)
Given that scenario I don't blame the intelligence community for erring on the side of caution...
Even if they might possibly have read into meeting things that weren't actually there...
When you get hit that hard on your home turf you tend to get just a bit paranoid...
As for Iraq being a mistake...
I completely disagree...
We needed to go in and depose saddam...
I will agree that trying to be politically correct while doing so was a tragic mistake...
But, that's as much as you'll get from me. :D
Mike Sr. -
The majot mistake was waiting too long to do it and telegraphing our every move so that Saddam could send all his WMD's over to Syria.
Joseph Botwinick -
Joseph, Good Point!
-
Wonder what will become of that stockpile?
-
There were no WMDs in Iraq to send to Syria or anywhere else. To believe that nonsense is to still be deceived by the neocons.
Using chemical weapons against the Kurds and the Iranians happened in the 1980s. Those weapons were long gone after the inspection regime did its work after the Gulf War.
