I was privileged to watch this segment of The Red Skelton Show, which I see from the date stamp on the video was January 14, 1969. I was a junior in high school. I had forgotten about it until I saw it in conjunction with RevMitchell's posted video "The Star Spangled Banner as you've never heard it."
Mr. Skelton's recital brought tears to my eyes when I saw it again. I realized it is one of the presentations that gave me the courage, two years later when faced with the decision of being drafted or enlisting, to do the latter. I pray, on this wonderful Fourth of July that celebrates our 238th birthday as a nation, it will have the same effect on you.
Red Skelton's "Pledge of Allegiance."
Amen, and God bless.
