Senate Majority Harry Reid (D.-Nev.) late Wednesday published the final text of a Senate health care bill that would mandate federally subsidized abortion.
The mandate appears on page 120 of the 2,074-page bill under the seemingly innocuous heading: ‘Assured Availability of Varied Coverage Through Exchanges.”
Specifically, the provision requires that the secretary of Health and Human Services make certain that at least one health insurance plan offered in government-regulated insurance exchanges where people will be able to purchase health insurance using government subsidies must provide coverage of abortion. The secretary also must make certain that at least one plan available in the exchanges not cover abortions.

That ensures this particular bill won't pass the U.S. Senate.

What a morally bankrupt piece of filth this guy is. -
I look forward to a future congress that id Reid and Pelosi free. Even my liberal friends look forward to that.
-
Here's hoping there are enough Senators with the stones to block this thing from even getting to the floor to debate it. Make it DOA. -
-
This is actually a good thing, because many Democrats have already said they will not support a bill that mandates federal funding of abortion.
Give 'em more rope, they plan on hanging themselves! -
I wish the the GOP had the guts to offer a free market alternative like this one:
www.cato.org/pubs/pas/pa650.pdf
However, we know from their time in control of the Congress that most GOP members of the Congress only give lip service to the free market. -
Isn't Harry Reid personally supposedly Pro-life? Seems like I read that somewhere. -
Personnally, I don't care how probable this may appear to stop the bill from passing...... I don't like the bill and I don't see this addition as anything to applaud.
The crooks have their history of posturing in the past and then finding one reason or another to excuse how they decided to pass something in the end.
Remember the 'hate crimes ammendment'? If enough people of principal had opposed it......even if it meant a temporary turn down of appropriations..... and the military had sufficient cause for those appropriations.... it would have created enough of a stir to support our military by removing the ammendment and passing the dar n bill for what it was intended! Weak, impotent, lying idiots!....... Most of them. I trust non of their cowardly stupid posturing and promises! -
Apparently if the bill is brought to the floor it takes only 51 votes to pass it. Some Senators who claim to be against the bill [Joe Leiberman] say they will vote to bring it up for debate.
-
It will require 60 votes to break the filibuster and bring it to the floor.
"The first test for the bill, which would extend coverage to 31 million more Americans while reducing federal budget deficits by $130 billion over the next decade, will come Saturday evening. That's when Democratic leaders hope to keep together all 60 of their caucus members to turn back Republican procedural objections. Reid's efforts are focused on three moderate Democrats who oppose various provisions in the bill and have not declared whether they will support efforts to advance it."

Once any bill gets to the floor it only requires a majority to pass it or a tie with the vice president voting to pass it. -
When was the last time this happened? Besides, I don't think the work ethnic is ingrained enough for these folks to do their job. Most everyone will be committed more to their extraciricula projects including getting back home for holidays and meeting with their constituents...... ha, ha..... more probably courting lobbyist and fund raising. --------Too bad it wont include seeing pink slips in their future and updating their resume's like 20+ Americans are having to do. -
Based on what I've seen, that lowlife would abort his own kid if it would get him elected. -
I have emailed both of my U.S. Senators to vote no on the procedural vote this weekend. I hope that all who advocate limited government will do the same before the vote on Saturday night. We can defeat this bill before it even gets to the floor of the U.S. Senate.

Don't you know this script has been written by the powers that be for a show to the American people. From the struggle in the House, to the final bill in the Senate, to the debat tomorrow, then on to the Conference Committee, to the final signing. Those holding the true crux of power have already decided the outcome, the show is only to give us a sense of democracy in action. Now, I have no idea which way they decided, but it was sealed a while back.
What will this senator do, or that one? The anticipation is killing me. These people are nothing but puppets on a string. This I do know. The bill will be decided by what enhances their political power and wealth, and have nothing to do with what is best for the American people.
So here we have abortion in the Senate, and none in the House. Just another act in the drama.
Personally, the abortion element in the bill is enough to despise the the whole concept, not even considering the economic realities, and inept people making life and death decisions for others.
By the way Ken, I have a Rand Paul sign for my yard. -
By the way, I just read that now only Senator Lincoln is left to decide if this bill will be allowed on the Senate floor for debate and amendments in the coming weeks. -
