I still am awestruck at Oral Roberts asking for 8 million.

    1. That's circular reasoning.
    2. I can name several churches of that attendance more in the red than that.

I disagree. It started with the false presupposition RW needs money (which is not the case)....and then clarified later the author of the OP doesn't like the guy. If that's not mean spirited, I don't know what is.

I would imagine $900,000.00 for RW is a drop in the bucket. As big as his church is and as dynamic as he is in "vision casting" as he would say, I'd say he already has the money in hand. Although I don't agree with him in many areas, his ministries have raised a lot of money and given it to needy people. If God has gifted this ministry in giving, I'm sure it will continue.

    No it isn't.
So go ahead and name them. You won't get any grief from me for doing so.

I do not apologize for it. You RW fans are more thin skinned than the Obamabots.

I wonder what the overhead in a 22,000 member church is.

Not to argue, but to merely opinionate, but I believe that using a church's expenses to "care for the community" is part of our Christian duties.

I do agree, Scarlett. But how does a responsible orginization end up $900,000 in the red ? This is a sign of someone not doing something right.

Certainly there is a call for fiscal responsibility whether a church's annual budget is in the 7 figures or the 4 figures. Someone has to have sound management capabilities.

I would like to know what their annual budget is.

I'm not going to get too into this but Saddleback's budget is well into the eight figures.

I still have yet to see why this is worth discussion. Other than wanting to rub a leader's face in something nearly every church I know of it facing, it doesn't seem to be a worthwhile thread.

Yeah, I should have started a thread about the zero's birth certificate, or how Bush lied us into war, or how Sarah Palin is the second coming of Esther.

It's news. This is a news forum. I posted it. If you have a problem with it, see the moderators.

And next time you say yer not going to get into it, stay out of it.

Then why post in a thread you find unworthy of your attention?

at each of the churches we've been a part of the pastor does not manage the funds, someone(member) who knows about finances , the person the church has named as tresurer, at our current church the person is a cpa.

I'm no fan of rick warren, but I do think accusing him here is baseless, wheres the proof he has done anything wrong?
All churches have their own budget, they do not have to ok it with anyone outside their church, most churches set budgets based on last years giving, and ministries in the church, they seem to have set their budget and giving came in short. a large church would have a large budget, giving has fallen 900k short for 2009. rick warren probably doesn't count each weeks monies and deposit them in the bank, and if he isn't the treasurer, he also is accountable for the budget given him for expenditures.

There isn't any. And in fact typically he most likely has little to no involvement on the budget. Although it seems it has his attention now.

Ummm - you did. You said "Rick Warren needs money" as the title of this thread. That's accusing him personally of needing money. I think there's definitely an ulterior motive here.
