We have academic & music scholarships as well. Do you know how hard one has to work to recieve any of them ? My brother went to college on an academic scholarship. And he did earn it.

Such scholarship typically require that the recipient maintain a 2.5 gpa or higher. I don't have a problrm with such a scholarship. I likewise don't have a problem with music or art scholarships either. In fact, part of my college tuition at a Bible college was paid for via a music scholarship.

Yes your brother earned it Curtis. But you KNOW there are many athletes out there getting scholarships who can't spell "car".

Now...SHOULD people get scholarships? I mean, if they can get scholarships despite the bad apples...then why can't people who NEED welfare get it despite the bad apples who abuse the welfare system?

Johnv, that is good that scholarships typically require a high GPA and they should. But come on brother...you KNOW too, that there are many college athletes out there who can't spell "car" and probably can't even tie up their own spikes. (yes I'm exaggerating)

May be, but there are many college graduates who can't spell "car" either. Personally, I think those claims are greatly exaggerated. The claims are oft repeated, even by me, but seldom verified.
Oops, sorry about that. It's not the first time I've inadvertently done this.

    James says...
Now...SHOULD people get scholarships? I mean, if they can get scholarships despite the bad apples...then why can't people who NEED welfare get it despite the bad apples who abuse the welfare system?

People should be able to earn scholarships, for hard work. Tell me one college athlete who can't spell "car".

    Welfare doesn't require earning anything.

Why are you against hard work ?

Yes, people should be able to earn scholarships for hard work. You believe that EVERY college athlete is good in school?

Have you heard of Shawn Kemp? I'll have to verify it's him I'm talking about, but my girlfriend said she went to the same high school he went to and it was well known that he wasn't...the best student to put it politely.

Welfare doesn't require earning anything but some people need it. Mind you, I don't...but some people do.

I am not against hard work. I am sorry if that's the impression you get. However, with the condition of my knees and my feet at this time I can't do the hard work I could when I was 20. I still work as hard as I can though. Why are you against the government helping people who need help?

I am hoping to get my knees fixed but as it stands now there are many jobs I could not do. I applied to be a firefighter but I'm going to have to cancel that for the time being. I was also interested in becoming an electrician and that just can't happen either. So...I'm a security guard...in a company for ex-military guys such as myself.

Now...that's enough of me sharing anything personal. I know what happens when someone does that on a public board.
