What are Unions going to do now?

Hostess Brands Inc. is permanently closing three bakeries following a nationwide strike by its bakers union.

The maker of Twinkies, Ding Dongs and Wonder Bread said Monday that the strike has prevented it from producing and delivering products, and it is closing bakeries in Seattle, St. Louis and Cincinnati. The facilities employ 627 workers.

Hostess, based in Irving, Texas, operates 36 bakeries nationwide and has about 18,300 employees. It warned earlier this month that the strike, by about 30 percent of its workforce, could lead to bakery closures.

"We deeply regret this decision, but we have repeatedly explained that we will close facilities that are no longer able to produce and deliver products because of a work stoppage — and that we will close the entire company if widespread strikes cripple our business," Hostess Brands CEO Gregory F. Rayburn said.

Hostess said customers will not be affected by the closures.

A representative for the union could not be reached immediately for comment Monday.

Fortunately you can stock up on Twinkies. They will last years without spoiling. Share them with your great-grandchildren while you tell them what life was like at the turn of the century.

Yes, I know Twinkies don't last forever. Hostess says they have a shelf life of 25 days and will explode in a microwave in 45 seconds, blah, blah, blah......

Back to the OP. At the risk of sounding like my father do these people think money grows on trees? Do they really think Hostess (or any other company) has warehouses full of cash that they 'stole' from their workers? You know what burns my behind? A person will accept a $10 hour job and be glad to have it for a while. Somewhere along the line they become convinced that their $10 job is really worth $15 and the only reason the ain't getting the $15 is because The Man is stealing $5 from him every hour.

Hostess is in bankruptcy and tells their workers they have a choice to make

They say ...We can't afford to pay what we've been paying and the benefits and still make enough money to stay in business so here's the deal:

1. Work for a little less and we can stay open. You'll get paid and still have a job.

~or~

2. Be a hammerhead, demand more than you're getting now, walk off the job and wonder why the plant gets shuttered. Now you have no pay and no job.

I don't get it.

padre, that's because you have common sense.

The unions and the left are going to find out pretty soon how it feels to bite the hand that feeds you.

Well, with Hostess closing up, that should make FLOTUS happy, she's been after how and what we eat for the past 4 years.

Ever noticed that greed has a way of tossing common sense aside?

Twinkies, Ding Dongs and Wonder Bread ... three abominations of food when it comes to your health. I swore off Wonder Bread years ago when we opened a picnic container used the summer before, about ten months. Inside was half a loaf of Wonder Bread we had accidentally left inside. It was still soft and had no mold. My thought, "This chemical concoction cannot be good for my health ... or for anyone else."

Give me a good multi-grain or rye bread. These have taste as well as nutrition.

To the topic. That is managements right, to close plants if they want to do so. Workers have a right to strike, management has a right to respond. This response can take any of a number of forms.

I "wonder" if their managers have considered making real bread products? There is probably a lot more profit margin. The bottom line is still profit margin. That is why much of our stuff is imported from China, including food. Bentonville: aka Wallyworld, imports over 80% from Bejing. Tired of standing in long return line? Stop buying from such merchants. One big problem: they have a big chunk of the gold--or is it all e-money?

What is in your wallet?

Exploitation of the masses continues--at baud rate.

Even so, come Lord Jesus.

Peace,

Bro. James

The unions and all US working class people are in BIG trouble. I expect wages in terms of spending power to drop another $5/hour in the next few 5 or 6 years max.

Who eats that junk anymore...even the bread is crap & would turn to sugar minutes after eating it. Nothing about the products is good for anyone. Like Romney said of the auto industry...let em fail!

I usually bring six boxes of Twinkies to the Montana Grizzlies football games, to toss into the crowd after touchdowns. It's a tradition.
