"Save yourself..."

Would anyone like to explain what this means?

Acts 2:40 -- "Save yourselves from this untoward generation." How can this be done, Calvies? What was Peter talking about? Isn't salvation "all of God?"

To be completely fair, the whole CONTEXT is in answer to "What must we do?" Peter answered 1) repent, 2) be baptized, 3) receive the Spirit, and 4) "...many other things did he testify and exhort saying "Save yourselves from this untoward generation." So what does it mean??

Act 2:39 "For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself."

Yep. Salvation is all of God.

meek and the humble

It is God will to call upon the meek and the humble who trust in the name of the Lord and it is will to keep them.

If we tell men the truth of whom called as called intead of telling people a way through a dying religion we would get the ones ones whom God has chosen.

The particular wording of "save yourselves" is causing you confusion SP . Or , you are willfully distorting the meaning to promote your errant views .
The drift of Peter's expression means to keep yourselves away from the sin and evil practices of the culture of the time . Escape , get out while you can or the punishment that will fall on them is bound to fall on you . Repent and believe what I am telling you . As a result with these and many other words directed to them 3,000 people were added to the Church that day . Actually , all who had been appointed to eternal life believed . Gotta' love the Lord's preordination .

Psalm 72:13
He will take pity on the weak and the needy and save the needy from death.

James 5:

19My brothers, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring him back, 20remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save him from death and cover over a multitude of sins.

I am glad myself that God preordained to save the meek and the humble who trust in the name of the Lord than a man who has chosen Himself and calles Himself a child of God.

He who chooses himself is condemned already . That's about as bad as someone who thinks he can save himself . Wait a minute ! Many here think that their choice initiates salvation . Hmmm .

God initiated

I didn't come to God out of the blue, but He called me first. It is His choice to save the meek and the humble who trust in the name of the Lord. It wasn't any of our choices to do so.

So that means you were more meek and humble than those who are lost? How meek and humble do you have to be? Is there a point where one is meek and humble enough? Congrats upon your meekness and humility.

Yes, the logical illogical choice between one thing and one thing...

That of a child, and since we have all been children at some point in our lives, know exactly what that means.

Huh? How does one accomplish being a child? We ALL know what the faith of a child entails. It's a matter of rejecting it or accepting it, not on accomplishments.

It all begins by faith in Jesus and walking with Him and learning from the master of being meek and humble.

Matthew 11:25
At that time Jesus said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.

We must be born again, and come to Jesus as a child. To start over as to say.

wages of sin is death

There is no way we can save ourselves because the wages of our sin is death.

Your only hope is Jesus and what He did for us on the cross.
