The SBC is criticizing the BWA (from which it withdrew) for sending fund-raising letters to SBC and other Baptist churches.
CHAPMAN CRITICIZES BWA
My own opinion is that this has little to do with principle but rather that the SBC knows that many congregations opposed the divorce from the BWA and might be tempted to support it if asked. Course, that's just an opinion.
SBC vs. BWA again

Probably exactly what the BWA have in mind. Yet as was discussed here when the split happened, people suggested that being in the BWA violated the autonomy of the local church, yet in the same way, autonomy of the local church can allow churches to be in whatever groups they feel like.
Do the SBC have a point on percieved solicitation? Do other christian agencies solicit in the same way? -
When I was a student at SWBTS our names and addresses were given to non-SBC groups inviting us to various conferences. We all knew what they were promoting. They wanted us to attend conferences that had their favortite speakers with a particular theology of dispensationalism. I expected confidence from the school and its trustees. But someone failed and I did not appreciate it at all.

There is, in my mind, a difference between providing lists of individuals and of churches (which are public.)
I wonder if the SBC sells mailing lists to other organizations? -
-
If they want to try to divide the Church, then:
1. this is just proof positive that we did the right thing seperating from them
and
2. Let them. The local Church is autonomous.
Joseph Botwinick -
I pity any church gullible enough to give money to the worthless BWA. The BWA couldn't even understand why accepting the apostate CBF would be a problem to the SBC. Duh.
-
Typical SBC mumble-jumble, double-talk. We don't want to be apart of the BWA so we will withdraw. Fine, now the BWA sends a letter looking for financial help from some SBC type churches. Now the SBC gets upset because the BWA is violating rules of an organization they are no longer apart of! I think the "DUH" belongs to the SBC leadership who continue to be an embarrassment of leadership.
-
We made the right choice separating from the evil organization. If the local churches want to support evil, let them. The SBC doesn't have to. Our Church won't.
Joseph Botwinick -
How is the BWA evil?
-
I don't know if evil is the best adjective. I was thinking more along the lines of: useless or worthless.
It is just another layer of paid liberals to whine and complain about the bid bad SBC. Like I said, they couldn't even grasp the whole SBC/CBF thing. -
Bear in mind that the BWA are the people that make up other Baptist Denominations and people that are also members of the SBC. When dispersions are cast on the BWA, they are actually being cast at all those people that are involved, directly or inderectly.
-
If the SBC did not not dump the BWA on a baseless charge of "liberalism" the BWA would not have solicited money from SBC churches. If the SBC does not want the BWA to solicit funds from individual churches they would restore funding, if not, the BWA has the same right as any para church organizaion to solicit funds from any church that they desire to solicit funds from. Is the SBC taking issue with any other outside mission agency? I dont think so.
Many SBC churches continue to think highly of the BWA, and those churches know that the convention cut the BWA off. It is not suprising that they would want to contribute to the BWA. -
Does anyone know or have any information about how the SBC stacks up against the BWA in a missions sense?
-
It would be comparing apples and oranges. The BWA provides support to indegenous missionaries, as well as educational materials. It coordinates short-term missions, but the participants are members of other Baptist groups. (Similar to some SBC short-term mission programs.)
It also operates Baptist World Aid, a relief fund through which donations are funneled through local Baptist organizations. -
-
I am convinced that the SBC says one thing and does another. Why would Henry Blackaby just a few months ago tell the people that so many are conservative in theology but act like practical atheists? Why would Draper says that if then don't change then in the next 20 years they will be nonexistent? You don't say those kind of things when you feel good about things.
I think the whole thing is nothing more than denominational garbage and trying to uphold a good image. Get down to business with God. That is the answer not a bunch of chruch growth experts or kingdom growth experts. We must believe the Bible and do things God's way if we expect His blessing. -
We must believe the bible and the SBC is one of the few denominations that believe in a fully inspired and inerrant word of God.
The breakup of the SBC actually started on this issue. -
"Would it be that overall or at least comparatively the SBC effort is much greater? I think it probably is."
The BWA and SBC are totally different types of organizations. The SBC's primary goal, since founding, has been missions, while the BWA's role has been more one of coordinating efforts and fostering cooperation. -
