I recall seeing him in an interview explain how his dutch professor at college or seminary told him to get rid of that "preek (preachy) tone" while preaching.

If you know what I can at least find the quote, please let me know. Thank you.

Can you get access to a copy of Schuller's autobiography (2001)?

Otherwise, it may take a while to go through Robert H. Schuller's 30 published books.

I recall watching him say it, in video. But thank you for the link.

Found this and wonder if it's what you are looking for:

Talking Calvinism with Robert H. Schuller | Richard J. Mouw

“In the end I told him, ‘Schuller, your theology is like the first rocket phase of a spacecraft going to the moon. It gets the ship in the air, but pretty soon something else has to take over if the flight is to be successful!’”

But the gospel of success did not last for the megachurch.

the main quote of his that always really bothered me was when he claimed that just as God sent to us Calvin and Luther for the reformation, God sent him for the Gospel of self reformation, self esteem!

Spot on, that's it. I can appreciate the importance of communicating to people and not just randomly preaching at them, but I always thought it sad, almost Satanic, how that college speech-teacher thus forever emasculated Schuller's preaching.

Here is the transcript from the video so that people don't have to watch it:

(This is taken from the YouTube video transcript so there may be misheard words)

the best thing that happened to me there
is first of all I had one of the great
speech teachers in the United States and
it was so he was so known I was very
fortunate at that time I thought I was a
great speaker cuz I had done a lot of
talking I mean I was out talking to
youth groups even when I was in high
school I thought it was great and I knew
he'd brag about my speech when I had to
give my speech to the class in speech
    101 I got ripped
I didn't know thank God I would learn it
he said sure I think we can make a
speaker out of you but it's gonna take
it tough a lot of work
he said we gotta get rid of a Plato and
that's a tough thing to get rid of Frank
is a Dutch word and I'm Dutch but he was
too Frank means preach he said we gotta
get rid of that preaching Tom it was the
thing preaching tone let me illustrate
let's start today about how we can live
the life that God wants us to live this
is very important break2 preaching - he
said it's gotta be conversational talk
to people don't preach at them he cured
    me pretty good
I still have remnants of that left at my
worst and I think then the most
    14:32
important thing that happened was it was
    14:33
in that department that I involve myself
    14:36
and debate and the only honor I ever got
    14:41
at Hope College was being elected to Phi
    14:45
    Kappa Delta the national honorary
    14:47
forensic fraternity I'm very proud of my
    14:50
gold key and I learned debate I was good
    14:54
at debate and I think I've been a
    14:57
debater ever since I think that when I
    14:59
they get up in the pulpit to speak I'm
    15:02
    always anticipating the audience I'm

There may be misheard words? I'll say!

    It's preek, not "Frank" [?!]
    and tone not "Tom"

Closed captions are a hoot sometimes.
