    And even shallower sheep.

I have noticed for many years that lots of IFB pastors are really shallow and their flocks are even more so shallow. The messages have very little Biblical content, but contain lots of stories, hollering, whooping, and annunciation plays. The shallower and louder the preacher gets, the more the sheep eat it up.
The more he stomps and snorts, the happier they get. Keep wondering where the snake room is.
Why are people attracted to those type pastors? They have smaller followings, but the followers are cult like.

"having itching ears" - that sort of preaching doesn't convict but does entertain a base craving within some, to be flattered, to be included, to laugh and feel good and not be convicted of sin, righteousness and judgment to come.

Spurgeon: "A time will come when instead of shepherds feeding the sheep, the church will have clowns entertaining the goats.”

That is in line with what I have been thinking. I recently read excerpts from that sermon. It is very true.

    It's no different than Pentecostalism.

Others have been taught various man-made tenets and act in accordance with them, not the Word. The listeners feel "comfortable" with preaching in line with those teachings. For example, if you BELIEVE these tenets, you will flock to hear:

God wants you healthy and wealthy - they will hoot and holler at preacher like Jim Bakker, Swaggart
God wants you to be happy and loving - they will sit smugly at the Crystal Cathedral or Joel
God wants you to follow women preachers - they will clap for Joyce or Beth
God wants you to work to either earn or keep your salvation - they fill the Arminian pews
God wants you to blindly follow the "managawd" and do as he commands - they run after Hyles and legalists making up rule after rule
God wants you to give you miraculous signs - they run to Benny and snake handling charismaniacs

Charles Finney showed charlatans why. It feeds the narcissist's ego.

Yeah they sell a lot of books and starving sheep buy into their claptrap as they laugh all the way to the bank... Tune in if you want entertainment... Truth not so much, if any!... Brother Glen:)

2 Timothy 4: 2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

    3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

The only thing I would disagree on is Swaggart. To be fair, he does not preach prosperity. He is actually very vocal against it. The fact he has a mansion and lives the life of Riley is a separate subject.

What an oys me the worst is "My Biiiiiiiiibbbbble says." And "The LoooooorrrrrrrrrD tolD me.".
The name calling from the pulpit is right up there.
It reminds me of the psychology of professional wrestling. Heels VS Baby faces. It's as if they are trying to unite the church by causing a fight against something. As long as the church is fighting a common enemy, the pastor has control.

How do you know this? One does not have to stomp, holler, and snort to prove he is shallow. I have read stuff you have posted on this forum and I would not quietly preach some of it.

I think the op is about IFB. The very worst IFB preacher will not be guilty of some of the sins you mention in your post.

I don't have a problem with the noise. I have a problem with the empty noise being used to whip up a crowd.

    Why?
Could be many of those were brought up in churches like that and they just figure that is the correct way of a church service.

AKA - I know what to do in church - I just dont know WHY we do it that way!

Should we not all know why we do what we do?

I heard a lady say the she always cut about 4" off the end of her turkey before cooking it, because her mother did it. Her mother was at her house and saw her cut the turkey and asked the daughter why. Daughter said because you always did it mom. Mother said, that was the only way it would fit in her pan.

That's why I included to two main errors of IFB'dumb. The false arminian/works teaching to keep your salvation, and the false "managawd is always to be obeyed"

This is why I left the IFB, I was an assistant pastor and tried to have a theological conversation to which he couldn't keep up. I resigned after finding a similar position elsewhere.
