...Shellie Zimmerman was asking that her husband pay for a permanent life insurance policy with her named as the beneficiary, according to a divorce petition made public last week.

In an interview with ABC's "Good Morning America" that aired last Friday, Zimmerman said her husband left her with "a bunch of pieces of broken glass" after the acquittal. She said he only stayed in their house three or four nights since the trial ended and that they even tried counseling. But she moved out Aug. 13.

"I have a selfish husband and I think George is all about George," she said.

George Zimmerman and his lawyers have made no public statements on the divorce proceedings. An email to Zimmerman's lawyers weren't immediately answered.

George Zimmeran's brother Robert Zimmerman Jr., tweeted that "we've learned from GZ case not to `jump to conclusions,' to wait for facts, & to avoid speculation. `News' is a business - not your friend."

Last month, Shellie Zimmerman, 26, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor perjury charge for lying about the couple's finances during a bail hearing following her husband's arrest after Martin's shooting....

Seems we will never call him Gentle George. Guess he was just defending himself from a mean spouse. Glad he didn't have his pistol so he could "stand his ground".

He has not been arrested, or charged, with anything, yet. He is being investigated. The thread title is misleading. And he did have his pistol, but you obviously didn't read any of the provided links.

I read an article from another source. Also, guess you missed my sarcasm. I was too subtle for you it seems.

But I will stand by my statement that he will never be called, "Gentle George".

Seems, if you believe his wife, he did have his pistol handy. Maybe she needs one to "Stand Her Ground" or does that law only apply to men?

The deputy chief said officers have not recovered a gun. "We haven't seen a gun. We have not recovered a gun that I know of,'' Morgan said.

"It was between him and his wife and her father,'' Morgan said. "There were some allegations that there had been an assault but we could not confirm any of it. Witnesses do not want to speak to anyone until they speak to their lawyer.''

Okay, what is the difference between being in police custody and being arrested?
He's in custody, not free to go. What's the diff?
At least all the reports are saying he's in custody.

I do find myself reading news outside the USA on a regular basis. There's generally more information on topics. It's...odd.

They are investigating him because they have probable cause that a crime was committed (assault, allegedly). It's the old cliched scene from the movies, "You're coming downtown with us to answer some questions at headquarters."

Agreed. So much of the US news is celebrity sightings and gossip. Just go to http://www.msn.com/ or http://www.aol.com/ and look at what passes for headlines.

Even more shocking - have to go to news sources outside of the USA for details.

Why is the news in the USA so censored?!

Well, first of all, the story is completely inaccurate. Googling questionable news stories is always a good idea. And the story was not censored in the U.S. No one, not even his enemies, consider it newsworthy:

http://news.msn.com/crime-justice/zimmerman-detained-over-domestic-violence-incident

ORLANDO, Fla. — George Zimmerman's estranged wife called police officers to her father's house on Monday, saying the former neighborhood watch volunteer who was acquitted of murder threatened her and her father with a gun.

Shellie Zimmerman called police shortly after 2 p.m. Monday, said Police Chief Steve Bracknell. In a call to police she said Zimmerman punched her father in the nose, grabbed an iPad out of her hand and smashed it and threatened them both with a gun.

Zimmerman was not arrested and officers were at the house trying to determine what happened, Bracknell said. He said the estranged husband and wife are blaming each other for starting the fight but that Shellie Zimmerman would not press charges.

Shellie Zimmerman said in a divorce petition filed last week that she and her husband separated a month after Zimmerman was acquitted of any crime for fatally shooting 17-year-old Trayvon Martin last July in Sanford, just a few miles away from Lake Mary.

Zimmerman's acquittal led to protests nationwide.

Shellie Zimmerman was asking that her husband pay for a permanent life insurance policy with her named as the beneficiary, according to a divorce petition made public last week.

It's the old "he-said-she-said" routine, and even the sensationalist media is catching on to the fact that wives in these situations make false claims in order to bolster their petitions for dissolution.

Okay, I just looked up the difference between being in police custody and being under arrest.

I didn't know they could do that, without you being able to simply say "I'm leaving" and just walk away, thought the only way to be under police custody was via arrest/transport.

Its usually done only when the person feels he has nothing to hide. But he is within his rights to refuse the trip.

I remember telling some friends back after the trial that Zimmerman has the OJ disease. He's gonna find a way to go to jail.

Told him to disappear to a town of 36 in West Texas. Hop on a bus, change your name, grow your hair out. Lay low for a while.

Most American consumers would rather be entertained than informed.

Unless you live in the local news outlet where the Zimmerman story took place, what interest is it to you besides the thrill of a soap opera? Cases like this happen across this nation daily that do not get reported. Get a hobby.

Like...reading foreign news sites?
Raising plastic chickens in the city?
Knitting sweaters for worms?
Because I'm really good at all three. Help me decide.
