    Yes, I see, but I prefer my way of looking at it.

    BTW the Douay-Rheims is a translation of a translation - an English translation from the Latin Vulgate which has unique readings from the Vulgate differing from the Traditional Text.

    The KJV retained a few of these Vulgate readings departing from the TR.

    Slander or not I think the NIV is more a paraphrase than a translation.

    I don't think it's slander; I just don't think it's entirely accurate. The NIV usually comes down in the middle of the "formal vs. dynamic equivalency" scale, certainly far, far away from the NLT or The Message.
