Fox News: Malaysian officials say oil slicks spotted in South China Sea do not belong to missing plane​

Officials investigating the disappearance of a Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 plane with 239 people on board say oil slicks spotted by rescue crews in the South China Sea do not belong to the aircraft.

Malaysian maritime officials spotted the slicks and sent a sample to a lab to see if it came from the plane, but the results were negative, said Azharuddin Abdul Rahman, Malaysia’s civil aviation chief, at a press conference late Monday.

More than 48 hours after the plane disappeared from radar screens, a multinational search team consisting of dozens of ships and aircraft had failed to find any sign of the aircraft's fate.

What appeared to be a life raft turned out to be a moss-covered cable reel. The supposed door to the plane seen floating Sunday has disappeared and can't be found.

The plane couldn't possibly just disintegrate. Not unless a nuke was detonated onboard, which is a ludicrous thought. Somewhere, there is debris, or the plane didn't crash and is being held somewhere in Vietnam, Cambodia, or elsewhere.

But why not let the world know you've successfully kidnapped 239 people onboard a jetliner? Such an accomplishment is the ultimate dream of a terrorist group.

So it isn't likely the plane is sitting safely on a tarmac somewhere awaiting a trillion dollars ransom money. It went down. But where? And why can't they find it?

If I remember correctly when Air France 447(?) crashed into the Atlantic it was nearly a week before the first debris was found and about two years before the black box was recovered. I realise it was a bigger ocean, but suspect something will be found relatively soon.

…..The Lyon, France-based agency said Sunday that it could confirm at least two passports listed in its SLTD had been used on Flight MH370. Later identified as the documents of Austrian Christian Kozel and Italian Luigi Maraldi, both individuals had reported their passports stolen in Thailand in 2012 and 2013 respectively.

Electronic booking records show that the men who flew on these passports purchased their tickets together from a travel agent in the beach resort of Pattaya, Thailand, and were due to switch in Beijing for onward flights to Europe, exempting them from Chinese visas and further identity checks.

If it landed in the water whole, I'd imagine it would be very hard to find after sinking.

I keep hoping that the communications went down so they turned back, ran low on fuel,soft-landed somewhere safe and they'll be found waiting in some remote area with no injuries.

Air France debris was found the next day though it did take four days to recover the first bodies. What is curious here is that no debris has been found yet nor any evidence of a crash. Early on Vietnamese military radar (?) reported a plane crashing into the water. I'm not sure if that report has been verified or not.

This is an odd and sad tragedy. Hopefully something will be found out soon. The folks I'm reading, who were around for it, recall how this incident has many parallels with the Lockerbie bombing.

All of them belong to China. China occupies all its islands with Chinese Marines. Doubtful they'd let an unknown aircraft plop down on one of their airstrips unannounced. But it's a thought.

Unknown: where it is today.

There is just not enough hard evidence to draw conclusions.

The trail is getting cold.

….One of the most eerie rumors came after a few relatives said they were able to call the cellphones of their loved ones or find them on a Chinese instant messenger service called QQ that indicated that their phones were still somehow online.

A migrant worker in the room said that several other workers from his company were on the plane, including his brother-in-law. Among them, the QQ accounts of three still showed that they were online, he said Sunday afternoon.

Adding to the mystery, other relatives in the room said that when they dialed some passengers’ numbers, they seemed to get ringing tones on the other side even though the calls were not picked up.

The phantom calls triggered a new level of desperation and anger for some. They tried repeatedly Sunday and Monday to ask airline and police officials about the ringing calls and QQ accounts. However unlikely it was, many thought the phones might still be on, and that if authorities just tracked them down, their relatives might be found. But they were largely ignored.

According to Singapore’s Strait Times, a Malaysia Airlines official, Hugh Dunleavy, told families that the company had tried calling mobile phones of crew members as well and that they had also rang. The company turned over those phone numbers to Chinese authorities…..
