It is suspicious in that the wording is past tense and Obama has only been in office since Jan. Not much past tense yet. Also, who has ever been in a college class where everyone agreed. That alone is enough to say, "Hey, something is wrong here."

Indeed, 'twas me. The poster of the OP has objected to me noting that this is an urban legend, but has not objected to the fact that the OP is an urban legend.

There are numerous sites that denote this as fiction, erumor, and urban legend. Here's the most common example:

Whenever material resources are redistributed in a manner in which a certain segment of the population receives an unearned gain, it breeds a sense of entitlement to that unearned gain. The resulting mentality of entitlement is what makes socialism inappropriate.

That said, there are facets of socialism that are perfectly appropriate, such as police and fire services, public utilities, libraries, and other municipal or governmental infrastructure systems. These do not result in unearned gains of individuals.

Doesn't communism and socialism as an economic theory "work" in very small social groups? Does your family elect its president and family council in a "democratic" fashion? Does The Wife get an equal vote in committee?

"Inappropriate" just seems to be a strange term to use to describe socialism.

But I would not apply the term socialistic to fire and police services and certainly not utilities, the majority of which are not "public" at all.

On that note, there are numerous threads on thsi very board that debate whether parables were they were fictional stories used to convey a spiritual truth, or whether they were real events. There is no shortage of folks to think that they must be real in order to be true, based on the notion that Jesus doesn't lie.

That said, the OP is an urban legend, and there's no disputing that. There is nothing inappropriate in noting that. Neither is it inappropriate to note that a biblical parable is typically fictional.
