Statue To Honor Billy Graham
Updated: 4/24/2006 12:23:19 PM
At the age of 87, the Reverend Billy Graham must now use a walker to get around. But a bronze statue, which will be unveiled at the Southern Baptist Convention, recalls the evangelist in his prime.
The figure of Graham will stand with a Bible in one hand and arms stretched out before a giant cross. At the foot of the cross, will be a stone inscribed with John 3:16 and three nails.
In June, the finished statue will be presented at the Southern Baptist Convention’s annual meeting in North Carolina. Later in the year it will be moved to Nashville for a permanent home outside the Southern Baptist Convention's Nashville headquarters.

I went to a Billy Graham crusade in the early 80's in Boston. It was an awesome experience. I've often been asked who I'd like to meet in person (alive) if I could and every time I've answered Rev. Billy Graham.

However one feels about Billy Graham's apostacy, nobody can deny he's brought a lot of people to the lord.
But a statue ? I'm kinda creeped out by that. -

I think that Southern Baptists have for a long time been huge supporters of Billy Graham and his ministry. I think that many times when his conferences have come around and churches of different denominations have worked together in an area to bring it about, that SBC churches have been amongst the first to be involved. Billy Graham and the SBC go back a long way and I think that you will find that there are probably many many people that are with the SBC today as a result of being born again at a Billy Graham crusade, so maybe the statue is the leaderships way of saying Thankyou!

Perhaps all you say is true. But a great many missionaries & preachers, will never ghet statues, and wouldn't want them. They are probably content with the mansion being built for them.
But, anyways, Billy Graham is OK in my book. -

Wish they would follow the example of Billy Graham and be willing to work with other Christians in the efforts of evangelism rather then building statues and firing missionaries who work with those from the Christian Missionary Alliance. But hey, I guess a statue is a start.

btw....I agree with you on your statement concerning The IMB and CMA

Wait, how is it possible to be lacking in objectivity but be right AND then have you agree with me all at the same time?
It is not news that I don't like the leadership, direction and agenda of the SBC, I never claimed to be objective or even "right", just expressing my opinion. But if I do say so, since you brought it up, your not exactly the most objective fella yourself concerning the all issues SBC. Which is prefectly fine you say tomato I pick up the tomato and try and hit you with it, in the end everyone's happy! -
Well, can we all agree that Billy Graham has led many people to God? We can agree to disagree...smile and go on. If we were all alike on this earth, it would be rather boring....

The SBC honors those who give large sums of money by publishing their names in their magazines and newspapers. They give plaques to those churches which give lots of money to the cooperative program.
