g_1933, what is your take on this? From the post heading, I take it you disagree. If you have more info, please share it.
I heard that Rowlings was not a Christian. Is that correct?

Rufus, Hello!
Just making a statement about the coming together of the world and the church. I thought this article said it pretty well without any help by me. As far as the state of Rowlings soul I can make no comment because I do not have that knowledge. I mentioned tolerance because of the way the "church" continues to look more like the world at large in accepting things such as this. So yes I dissagree. I thought this would make interesting discussion and I hope I have answered you to your satifaction.

I saw a televised interview with Rowlings.
Christ, religion, or Christianity was not alluded to in the hour long discussion.
As for me and MY house.......we will serve the Lord without Harry Potter.

"The idea that we could have a child who escapes from the confines of the adult world and goes somewhere where he has power, both literally and metaphorically, really appealed to me."
Like that of her own character, Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling's life has the luster of a fairy tale. Divorced, living on public assistance in a tiny Edinburgh flat with her infant daughter, Rowling wrote Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone at a table in a café during her daughter's naps — and it was Harry Potter that rescued her. First, the Scottish Arts Council gave her a grant to finish the book. After its sale to Bloomsbury (UK) and Scholastic Books, the accolades began to pile up. Harry Potter won The British Book Awards Children's Book of the Year, and the Smarties Prize, and rave reviews on both sides of the Atlantic. Book rights have been sold to England, France, Germany, Italy, Holland, Greece, Finland, Denmark, Spain and Sweden.
A graduate of Exeter University, a teacher, and then an unemployed single parent, Rowling wrote Harry Potter when "I was very low, and I had to achieve something. Without the challenge, I would have gone stark raving mad." But Rowling has always written; her first book was called "Rabbit." "I was about six, and I haven't stopped scribbling since."
For Rowling, the change in her fortunes has been slightly bewildering. But her daughter has no doubt about her mother's new career: when asked what mommies do, she replies without hesitation, "Mommies write!"

Oh, man, not another Harry Potter thread. Haven't we beaten this dead horse enough?
If you faith is so weak that you must add the banning of Harry Potter to your doctrine, you need to work on strengthening your faith. -

I agree with g_1933; some of us are also new to the board and we don't really know how much you have "beat" some topics to death. So instead of being rude just go onto some other thread that you have not beaten on so much! Thank-you for letting me vent (you guessed it ... a woman}

Don't worry about posting the same subjects again. That's expected. However, if anyone wants to see what has been talked about on that subject in the past, you can go to the upper right of your screen and click on "search". Then put the subject you are curious about in the box and click on search.
But very often, with any subject, there are new ideas, new things happening, new people to share thoughts with. That's what this board is for, so don't fuss about dead horses! -
When I first began to study the Sabbath, I was directed to some information about how the pope had changed the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday. After looking at this carefully, I began to look at what else in Christianity the pope had changed or attempted to change, Purgatory, praying to Mary etc etc.
So it is no surprise that the pope would o.k Harry Potter, Whether it is witchcraft, or people role playing witchcraft it is wrong by the bible.
For some good articles on harry potter and why it is wrong, check out the John Ankerberg page, http://www.ankerberg.com/ -

Johnv,
I was reflecting last night in prayer and I feel that I owe you an apology. My post was done in a harsh manner. I was going to send you a private message but since the post was made in public, it would only be right that I apologize in public. So I am sorry for speaking (typing ) in a harsh way and ask that you forgive me.
