do you use spybot or adware and why? I am trying to decide which one to use. Is one more user friendly than the other?

I use both. Their databases are different meaning they only look for certain files. I was getting slammed with spyware, etc so I switched to Mozilla browser, Avast Antivirus, AdAware SE and Spybot Search and Destroy. I schedule the AdAware and Spybot to run overnight and have had very little trouble since. Either utility is easy enough for me to handle so if you can walk and chew gum at the same time, you should have no problems.

Ditto what he said.
AdAware does a great job cleaning out your registry. Spybot finds many that AdAware doesn't.

Oh, and you can't go wromg with Firefox. Especially since version 1.0 rolled out. And the price ain't bad, either.

Since I started using firefox, my spyware killing software seems to be much less useful. It just isnt there

What's Foxfire? -
I use both AdAware and Spybot...
Together they work wonders....
I also use Sygate Personal Firewall and Norton Anti-Virus
And, keep it all up to date...
If you run them and have a lot of infections you may need to run them over again...
Some trojans disable/remove some of Spybot's Immunizations (Of course it could have been AdAware, too...)
So, at the very least rerun SpyBot's Immunization after you run AdAware... -
Firefox is also free. Yes, free.
Did I mention that it is fast?

I use spybot because adaware was not getting alot that spybot gets.

4 given,
Redundancy is good.
Spybot gets what AdAware doesn't.
AdAware gets the stuff out of your registry.

Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware beta is being offered for free, and it is really nice!

About MS 'free' anti-spyware...
If there is *any* chance your CD key for your Windows CD has been compromised do *NOT* install this software as it will disable your Computer...
If you have all your reciepts and an original CD then you are probably OK...
But, if you've got a bulk load from a major vendor and their key gets compromised you may be in for a bit of a rough ride getting up and running again...
Remember...
*ALL* Windows OS's *are* spyware... -
On my HP it is Firefox, Adaware and Spybot.
Most of my work is done on myh Apple though and I don't have to worry about spyware at all.
Go with both...I agree with the others. -
I actually found that a combination of sbybot and adaware does the trick for me
-
My older computer tore up and the one I have now has Vista so I was wondering if I still would need to have spybot and adaware installed? It seemed to work great on my older PC. Also does anyone know which site would be best to download from? I always used Norton; is this a good one for Vista?
Thanks, Becky -

Look in your help file for Defender, I think it does the job of that stuff but am not sure. As to Antivirus AVG from Grisoft.com works well on Vista if you like free.
-
Thank-you for your quick response exscentric. I do have defender so maybe it will be enough. I am on slow dial-up (country life:thumbs:) so don't want no more than needed. It will take me hours just to download AVG but for the price can't hardly beat it!

Ohhhhhh the pain of dial-up. We were on it till about a year ago and I caved into high speed  My son is still on it in Denver - his phone co. won't update the lines so he can't get it unless he goes with cable.
