I get sick of people piling on to Evan all the time.
Leave the guy alone!
Read Isaiah's commission: Isaiah 6:9-11.
And how many converts did Jeremiah make?
Maybe two-Baruch and Obed-Edom.
There's a lot of pride gone into some of the posts on this thread, and a sure way to lose effectiveness in ministry (eg. James 4:6).
You stick to your work as an evangelist, Evan.
Yes, pray without ceasing; yes, ask God to fill you with His Holy Spirit, but most of all, keep going. 'And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart' (Galatians 6:9)
Several of us have mentioned "making disciples," which is a Biblical command, and he has not answered a single one of us. Moreover, he has distinctly said he has evangelized for eight years and not made a single disciple. So I feel quite justfied in asking if he believes in making disciples. According to his post he believes in it--but again, he doesn't do it.
In order to make disciples, one must be filled with the Spirit. That is what the entire thread is about, God's power in winning souls, yet "Evangelist" has not until now even mentioned it, but has insisted that I am advocating pragmatism in soul winning, which could not be further from the truth. In fact, it is breaking the Ten Commandment which says not to bear false witness--and he claims to love the Ten Commandments. So now tell me I'm over the top.
I can tell, though, that you are not going to defend me from Evan's false charges of pragmatism (false charge = false witness, breaking the Ten Commandments he loves), and his ignoring of my OP over and over. This thread did not start about him. He made it about him.
If you believe in making disciples, why (1) have you never made one, and (2) never answered what any of us have said about Matt. 28:18?
No one has made up anything. You said you had never seen anyone saved (made a disciple) in eight years. For my part, I have diagnosed your problem--lack of the fullness of the Holy Spirit--and over and over again on this thread urged you to get on your knees in prayer for that, but you have completely ignored me on this matter--even though that is what the entire thread is about!!!
It's not easy making disciples on the streets where you see someone once and then never again. Probably easier in a rescue mission type ministry but I am called to the streets. Besides I have no contact in rescue missions and my church does not involve itself there.
I'll be very frank here. I am sick and tired of this arrogant young man giving excuses for why God can't save souls. I'm sick and tired of his false witness against me, accusing me of pragmatism--letting the results determine success. I am completely against that. Furthermore, that means he is lying about me--false witness--exactly what the Ten Commandments he claims to believe in teach.
I was asked to work in a ministry in the States 37 years ago rather than go to Japan, being told, "You can win more souls in America," which is true. But I obeyed the Heavenly call, and am so glad I did. God showed His mighty power to save souls in a God-hating, idol loving land over and over again. Praise His name!
Then continue to critique his methods, his motivations. But he is obviously trying. And I'm sorry if I see a wide distinction between not doing something well and not doing it at all.
I'm really tired of your excuses. God can save souls anywhere, anytime, and He always uses us to do it. Stop making excuses. It's wrong, dead wrong. "Whatsoever is not of faith is sin" (Rom. 14:23).
And now you are not understanding the whole thread. None of us do evangelism well, not a single one of us. In fact, it's impossible for a human to do evangelism well--because it is God's work and demands God's power. Every single one of us need the fullness of God's power to do evangelism.
This thread was not about Evan, and in not a single place on this thread have I mentioned his method. I dare you, I defy you to show where I have. I have done nothing but urge him to seek God's power.
Why, so I can be powerless like you? I need exactly what you need for evangelism, the power of the almighty God. As for Calvinism, I was arguing about it with Calvinists not only before you were born, but many decades ago, before you were even a mote in your mother's thoughts. Don't you lecture me on Calvinism young man. In fact, I'm sure I read Sproul before you were born.
Yes God can save souls but what if he chooses not to save people in Denver? What if he chooses to save them a year after I witnessed to them and I never saw the results?
Defenders of this young man, care to defend this last post, too? I certainly won't answer it. Absolute silliness when I'm as serious as I've ever been in my entire life. The subject of the power of God deserves humility, bowing on our faces before Him.
