Like I said, I stopped letting football interrupt my service to God. I go to Sunday school at 10, church is over approx 12:15-12:30
- I go back to music rehearsals at 4:15, and I don't get home from evening services until after 7.
- No football in there. It's the LORD'S DAY when I don't have to answer 911 calls.
I truly pity you, Tim....you have some awful skeletons in your closet.
More than half of these things are not even talked about in my church, much less practiced.
I will pray for you since you ridicule and laugh at people who fight and struggle with worldliness.
Actually the age group in the SS class have many members in the choir and practice is at 4:30. I will have to conclude the pastor and the choir leader must be either attending the SB party or they will be watching it on the tube.
I personally think Sunday afternoon is a time for family and rest until those things to honor God start back up, including choir practice:type:
We've had most of this list named here at one time or another, and in the local legalistic churches, most of this list, (expect the silly meant for humor ones, and a few others) are quit common, and they are serious about it too, to them many on this list prove a person is not a christian, or at best a fallen one, backslidden, needs to return to God, kick you out until you do.
agreed. half namked girls, beer and other stuff shown in football, ok for home, but not church if theres no service anyay, smells like legalism, or at best hypocritical.
Legalism
- I didn't say a single word about the status of anyone's salvation.
You keep insisting I am legalistic, and I have yet to point a finger at you. Why does it upset you so much that I don't agree with you?
How much like the world do you want your church to be?
Show football, have rock bands, light shows, set up a snack bar....and pretty soon, no one will know it's a church. If that is the goal, sounds like several around here are well on their way.
Christians (in this case, Baptists)
are supposed to be seperate from the world. And that, my dear friends, IS SCRIPTURAL.
Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing;..." II Cor. 6:17
There, the best definition of legalism I have found in any thread on this board. And that is NOT the criteria used in this discussion, so this is NOT about legalism. Nobody said anything about anybody's salvation. Most Baptists still adhere to certain standards that make them distinctly Baptists and conservative. THAT'S why most people voted against showing football in their church.
I like D4K but he is not the final authority on the definition of legalism. Many of us are using the word legalist as defiling someone who places extra Biblical standards on people and equate them to holy living. But, if you don't like the word legaist then let's use "Christian snob." That describes what many of us are talking about to the "t." Christian snobs place extra Biblical commands or standards on others. They judge other Chrisitans by these standards. Personally, it stinks to high heaven.
So you use what people say to judge them by your definition of a legalist. When they are asked questions like this and you take their answers and force everyone with whom you disagree into that group? I truly worry about people who do not know how to set apart the holy from the profane. As churches become entertainment centers people flock to them until the entertaining stops. But what happens is they keep going off into it and it becomes less and less like a church.
Well since you only know ONE definition of the word, let me help you by introducing you to other VALID definitions from Webster-merriam, and American Heritage...
Get your head out of the sand, and look around.
Your definition is not the ONLY meaning of the word.
I would say Websters, Merriam, and American Heritage are valid sources, wouldn't you?
And when we say you are practicing legalism, it has nothing to do with your salvation.. There is no doubt in my mind that you are saved, and love Jesus, but it is your strict adherence to
rules that allows you to feel superior to your brothers and sisters in Christ.
