They are a recent phenomenon in Baptist churches. I do appreciate the church covenanting to help raise the child in the way of the Lord. We, the church, have a communal responsibility to point our children toward Christ Jesus.
As a Sunday School graduate, I am deeply grateful for the great kindness, and patience shown to me when I attended those enriching classes.
I only taught Sunday school (both toddlers and adult classes) a few years, but I like to think I helped to enrich the lives of the students.
I remember one Sunday morning when a brief child dedication was performed.
The child, an active 3 or 4 year old boy was fascinated by our Pastor's hand held mike.
I do not think anyone was listening to what was being said, but on the inside we were ROFLOL as no matter what the Pastor did, the boy strained and reached and grabbed for that mike.
Better than improv.
