    Lets see, you take
Your checkbook to the grocery store
Your golf clubs to the course
    Your school books to school
    Your flashlight out at night
    Your lunch to work
Your maps on a long trip
    Your (fill in the blank)

Yes, I expect people to bring their Bibles to church!!!!
Too many folks will comment "my preacher says...." Well, your preacher can be wrong. The correct comment - My Bible says.....

My Bible goes with me everywhere- it's on my phone.

I much prefer a print edition, though- and I carry one to church.

If some Pentecostals would open up their Bibles and interpret in context they'd become Baptists!

My Sunday morning routine is as follows:

    1. Often carry a child into the church and take her to the nursury where her mom watches her for a bit until the nursury workers arrive.
    2. Go to my office to pick up my guitar and sometimes some music. Carry them to the sanctuary where I'll practice with hymns with the worship team.

This being the case, I will sometimes pick up my bible form my office, but often times my hands are full, so I just use a pew bible to follow along with the pastor. We have another several bibles at home, but I don't bring a home bible to church. I don't feel any less right with God for using the pew Bible.

You never know. I have never been a closed door in regards to learning. If God shows me that I need to change my beliefs, then I will. I find scriptures that cause me to really ponder if what I believe to be right is the correct interpretation.

From what I've observed the men who happen to bring a Bible have a wife who brings hers as well.

Pardon the interruption, I'm new here :)

I'm also the son of a Baptist preacher, so excuse that too

    Acts 17:11 KJV

"These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so."

Did these people bring a Bible to church, or not? Were they commended with being "more noble" for bringing a Bible to church?

I personally think whether people pack a Bible to church or not, is not the issue.

Congrats for being the son of a preacher.

Apples and oranges. We have Bibles now so of course the Bereans could not have brought a Bible to church. They didn't have Bibles then. Are you aware of this?

Wonder how they searched the Scriptures daily? Hmmm, they must have had possession of Scripture. Yet there could have been one then to tell them to do so wasn't necessary and tell them it wasn't important. :wavey:

Do you tell folks in church that they need not bring a Bible, because it is not important? Perhaps put this in 'the bulletin' and make them aware of how trivial this is?

I believe not bringing a Bible to church to be an issue here in the USA and to be of a serious nature. From what I've seen, those who do not carry a Bible are hit and miss at church. Most who do not carry one never attend any type of Bible study as well.

IMO, not carrying a Bible to church services is the result of Seeker Friendly programs like Rick Warrens. I questioned why men stopped carrying their bibles to worship service to our Seeker Pastor about 10 years ago and he laughed at me and said there was no need to have a bible since all scripture readings were on the big screens. He follows Pastors.com religiously. Sadly another result of the Purpose Driven Marketing/Management ideas. They don't want Christians and unchurched Charlie to read the Bible on their own because it just may contradict their message.

I'm just looking to what the Biblical standard should be.

The standard should be well above bringing a Bible to church, and using it in a pew.

If the standard is to search the scriptures daily, suddenly more and more people fall short.

Personally, I couldn't tell you who brings a Bible to our church or not, or who uses it during church. Maybe I need to get better at looking around at others.

That's good, let's find out what standard you come up with.

It sounds good like the standard should be high right here.

Now you just lowered the standard, and daily Bible reading is too high a standard. How do you know more and more people fall short? I mean you don't even know if they have a Bible at church or not so how do you know they don't read it daily?

Well, you got off of providing a standard after showing daily Bible reading to be too difficult to be a standard.

Yes, you should be more aware of your surroundings everywhere you go.
