Ms. Hussain called her pupil's gift of a Bible a "hate crime".

“I have a meeting with the Bible boy on Monday. Heaven help him, I am still so mad at that child!”

Of course it's a hate crime. Because he's a Christian. If he were anything else, it wouldn't be.

I would say her reaction displays her hatred for Christ rather than children.

I would says he does hate Christ, but at the same time her comments were about a child, her comment 'heaven help him', means she dangerous to children.

I don't personally think the comment "heaven help him" makes her dangerous to children. I said that with my own children a few times.

My opinion isn't changed as I thought of that before I typed my post. When you deal with lots and lots of kids, sometimes a teacher gets frustrated and that frustration comes out in a very poor phrase. I've heard wonderful teachers say less than wonderful things at times. There hasn't been one that I thought was dangerous. I'm more concerned with her calling him Bible-boy.

I don't think this teacher hates children in general or is dangerous. I think she may not like Christians, and she for sure didn't like having a Bible left to be found as an alternative to her lesson. I think she is ranting with the written word which is never wise if it is about your job and/or another person.

If a teacher said, "Heaven Help him" about my child, I would consider it a threat against my child....

I've never used the phrase myself...but have never taken it as some sort of threat. Am I missing something here?

2. something that you say when you are worried about someone who is in a very dangerous or unpleasant situation. God help anyone who has to be outdoors on a dreadful night like this!

Right.. by saying "Heaven help him".. the teacher is recognizing that the boy is in danger..
By her admitting anger toward him.. the danger is coming from her.

She also seems to be mocking the student's piety—reminiscent of the chief priests' words "He trusted in God; let him deliver him now" (Matthew 27:43).

There is a lot more out there about this incident and like all things there is something deeper going on.

This teacher has not (for whatever reasons) built the relationships needed to be a successful teacher with at least one group of her students and an antagonistic relationship has developed with that group. It may, of course, be wider spread. To complicate matters, she has posted her feelings in a manner in which they were visible to the world which is always unwise. It will not surprise me if she is not put on an improvement plan for the remainder of the year.

It appears that the teacher had FB set so that her wall could be seen by the public. That alone was not smart, but the words should never have been written in the first place. If her FB is anything like mine, it is full of casual friends. I just don't know them well enough to share the inner workings of my job and relationships. Discretion is the better part of valor.

I believe you are correct. Wasn't John Dewey also against Christian teachings? I know down here many a teacher isn't big on Christianity, I would say way over half.

I'm all for giving Bibles out but I don't know if a government building is the correct place to give one to a person who might be hostile to Christianity. Today we look at things so different than in by gone times.

The only "hate crime" I see is the teacher's atitude.
