What is the consensus on Tebow's role on the Jets? Is he there to provide competition to Sanchez? Kind of give Sanchez something to think about in training camp this year?
I can't see the Jets using him in the wildcat formation. I think opponents would see Tebow coming into the game for a play or two knowing exactly why he's in there. In other words, I don't think the Jets will be fooling anyone when Tebow enters a game for a play.
That's never really mattered with the wildcat at all.
I remember seeing something on CBS sports last year about the wildcat in college football (has to be similar % to the NFL)...and that whenever a RB or "speciality" player came into the wildcat...less than 2% of the plays resulted in a pass.
I think expecting it and being able to stop it are two different things.
Look at all these college QB's who can't throw and run the option.
The defense knows what's going to happen, but can they stop it?
I'll list a few of the things Tebow can bring to the table, a few reasons why they picked it up and what roll he will be playing from what I have read and seen so far.
He brings an un-taught ability to lead a team to victory, he is a winner! The brings the best out of the players around him. (Something Sanchez Lacks)
He brings a lead by example attitude and work ethic and toughness. (Something Sanchez Lacks)
He brings a skill set that not many quarterbacks can bring to the field that makes it very hard to make a game plan for. (The Jet's found that out first hand, last year)
Now as far as why they picked him up other then the reasons I stated above, well, Publicity is one major factor. As you all have seen on TV they did nothing to down play there pick up and no other back up quarterback has ever had thousands come to a press conference for initiation to a football team.
I also don't believe they would have picked him up if they did not believe he could be a starting quarterback and perhaps take over for Sanchez if the team loses a few games out of the gate.
Also, they don't want to make the same mistake that the Colts did and not prepare for the worst if Sanchez where to get hurt. They only had 40 year old Mark Burnell as there back up last year.
They also hope It will light a fire under Sanchez rear end. Hey, They invested a lot of money in Sanchez and have stood behind him, he has done fairly well but I think they are starting to wonder if Sanchez is that guy who can win a Super bowl. Tebow has shown what he can do not even given a full season.
Now, what will his role be? I see him doing a lot. He will have a bigger game package then most if not all back up ever had. He will have 3rd and short down play's and goal line play's. We all know first hand what Tebow can do mobile with the ball in his hand's.
The reason his game package/ role will be induced is the fact that opposing teams can plan for the 3-4 play's Tebow would be in the game an snuff him out. However, if Tebow runs 10-15 plays a game that makes it much more difficult for other teams to know what is coming next.
The mere fact of this popularity will put fans in the seat and Tebow Jersey's will sale like hot cake's.
There are ton's of reason's why Tebow benefit’s a football team and picking him up is an only a win, win situation. He is a winner and that is not something that is easy to teach.
The reason why the the wildcat is not used in the NFL is because the NFL teams CAN stop it. They are all stud's. The fastest and smartest player's from college. The Dolphin’s tried it for a while and had minimal effectiveness and ended in failure. The NFL is a totally different level then college in every aspect from players to coach’s, trainer’s and game scheme’s. The use of only the wildcat is nearly impossible to have any success with. If it was easy all the teams would do it and the teams that did would have deep play off runs and Super Bowl titles but that is not the case. I think they might use some wild cat and utilize his strengths with other drawn up play’s but I think for Tebow
to do well he will need 10-15 play’s a game that always differ. That will make it harder for defenses to zero on Tebow when his number gets called
.
Do you believe that God answer's football prayer's? What about the prayer's for Cancer patient's and innocent children that are beaten and sex slaves? Or, car wreck's, ect, ect. Where do you believe God draw's the line? Why would he intervene in Tebow's football career when there is starvation and no water, homes being destroy's by flood's, earth quacks and the sort? Why would God stop at one playoff win and then trade Tebow? Why not a Super bowl win and a huge Contract the following year?
I think Tebow is a great athlete and works very hard to be his best and to do well in football. I know God has blessed him but as far and God intervening in games and such I don't find any evidence to that. I would not want to either....
I forgot the [sarcasm] tag. Hope that clarifies things.
The Word says, "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much."
(James 5:16b)
When God hears Tebows prayers it is because the Father's ears are always attentive to the voice of His children.
It has nothing to do with a game or who wins and loses.
He has such a good attitude.
This link is from an NFL news site.
They are almost always right with their facts, but they seem to think everything that happens in the league is a plot of some kind.
Thus the comments at the end.
But what he says shows what a great attitude and witness Tim has.
I think they brought him for mainly monetary reasons.
Highly marketable and #3 in jersey sales last year.
That translates to mucho bucks for the Jets.
What other team's backup generates that much revenue?
I was hoping my Broncos would keep him and use him as a tight end and/or running back.
He's a very good runner and big enough to be hard to bring down.
I don't know how well he catches, but a run/pass threat can be a useful tool.
