I want to start this thread for acoustic guitar fans and passers-by. Please use it for all brands of guitars and playing styles and gear. We can post instructional videos and performance videos and recordings, even personal performance videos if you want.
To start off, I am posting a live performance of a couple of songs by one of my favorite fingerpickers, Nathan Salsburg.
Thanks for posting that vid!
You’ve got great taste.
I love his style.
He just lets the instrument sing!
We tend to get in the way of our own instrument, which was carefully designed to make beautiful sounds.
Nathan has learned NOT to do that.
He isn’t showing off, he’s letting that axe do its job.
I’ll be listening to more of him
Hopefully it's okay if I stick a classical guitar player on here. The song is not typical of that genre, though, but sounds more like modern pop--he wrote it himself. And the sound of his very old guitar is great. Anyway, I like this guitarist, Andrew York, and his technique:
Do you young whippersnappers know the name Jim Stafford? Here is a unique number by him, starting with "Malaguena," stopping for a joke, then going into "Classical Gas" with (get this!) "Flight of the Bumblebee" in the middle of it:
One of my college roommates was a semipro on the guitar, and he taught me "Classical Gas," which I still enjoy playing once in a while but have never really mastered. Just in case you younger guys don't know "Classical Gas," it was actually a hit song by Mason Williams on the pop music circuit in 1968 when I was in high school. Imagine that! Classical guitar updated and a top hit.
Thanks for sharing this. About half of my Saturday morning bluegrass internet radio show is gospel music and acoustic guitar hymns are always welcomed, so this may be a new source of instrumentals for those portions of my show.
