I have been mulling over some thoughts ever since the first hints of the 'Arab Spring' began coming across our Twitter feeds a few months ago. I don't want to be wordy, so will purposefully keep it short.
On one hand we have the deposing of several murderous tyrants. This has to be a good thing, right? After all most westerners support some sort of democratic rule of the people, so the people having a voice in their governance is good.
On the other hand we face the prospect of a whole string of Muslim states, or at least pro-Islamic states. Sharia law may well be the will of the people in these regions as time goes by. The west could now very well be faced by the prospect of an even more powerful Muslim presence in the Middle East and surrounding areas.
How are we then supposed to respond as the Arab Spring moves on towards winter? Is it a good movement? A bad movement? Or something we just don't know yet? Or do we, perhaps, just keep our noses out of it and hope for the best?

Bit of both, I would suspect, Roger.

Thats what spooks me about "taking out" these leaders such as Hussian or Qudaffe
Whos gonna rise to power when they're snuffed out??
Its like turning off all the lights in a room---and when someone screams--turn the lights back on to see whos screamin' and see who is causing the person to scream----does that make sense?? -

I would believe they were murderous tyrants, if I didn't see so many pictures of our leaders smiling, and shaking hands with them, before we had them whacked.
I guess, in 1400, if you took a bunch of Englishmen, and put them in a country, told them what kind of government we wanted them to have, and left them alone, the colony would have failed. People had to get fed up enough on their own, and convince themselves their own life was worth less than the lives of those who would enjoy the fruits of counter-revolution.
We have no business in Lybia.
And since when does the murder of a "tyrant" make an illegal war legal ? If that is truly the case, then I expect a lot of B.B. libbies owe an apology to Bush. -

Obama said it on the news. The killing of Qaddafi proves that my policy in Libya was right. -
This anything is justifiable in the war on terror is going to get us into trouble -

I think it's too early to tell what is going to eventually come out of the Arab spring. At least one good thing has come out of it--these people are getting more widespread access to the internet. With more access comes exposure to more ideas and information, information that likely will not support radical Islam (if they know where to look for it and are inclined to look for it.)

It's to late to keep our noses out of it because we started it all. The best we can hope for is that all those who'll believe anything the corporations tell them via their control of the mass media will wake up and realize that what is actually going on is alot different from what they are being told.

This isn't a rightie vs leftie thing. Much as y'all would like to keep on thinking. It's a we the people vs a corporate fascist thing.
