After the time of Augustine we also had tons of false doctrine and even paganism introduced by the RCC. So I don't think it is correct to say that PRIOR to the RCC taking action we "used to have" false doctrine.

But the main point of focused attention on the RCC is NOT that this is the only Christian church that teaches some doctrine that is not correct.

The REASON for the focus is that the Bible makes Roman Catholicism a focus and the fact that the Bible portrays God as "noticing" the 1260 reign of persecution that the Catholic Church presided over - in addition to the claims to be equal to the Commander of the Host.

Bob, that would be like clumping all 7th Day Adventists under the mirky cloud of Ellen G. White et al, and we know that is not so to-day.

So far as God "knowing", that is contingent upon one's eschatology...I do not accept pre-mil in any shape or manner, and especially dispensationalism. Shows a different light, more in tune with profane history.

    Cheers,

    Jim

PS. We all know about the false teaching in the original NT churches and in the following churches (all) down through the ages, including early Baptist Churches.

There is no possiblity of equivocating like that and defending it from scripture.

The way that something is proven exegetically is to observe the details in scripture and show the links that are there. It can be shown with a number of well accepted indicators from both the Bible and accepted history that the Papacy arose out of the pagan Roman empire and that it exceeded Rome in duration, power, terrirtory.

It can also be shown from scripture that the entity emerging out of that 4th empire would persecute the saints for 1260 years.

It can be shown from history that the dark ages "happened".

This is just not that hard and has nothing to do with trying to label JW's or Mormons or Baptists or SDAs according to one's preference.

The reformers recognized the links - and so also did most non-Catholic Christian churches until relatively recently.

This is not an "SDA" issue but a Bible issue where the "details" point clearly to the CC's actions during the dark ages.
