Forty-four? I hope you have a permit from the fire department to light that cake.

Happy birthday; hydraulic fluid for everybody, and check your party favors for bass lures.

One college I was in used to sing the birthday song to all students so celebrating.

Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you,
God loves you and we also do.

(to the famous hymn)

Why were you born so beautiful
Why were you born at all,
Oh why, oh why, oh why, oh why.......
Why were you born so beautiful, why were you born at all.

At 44, you are just a youngster, but God bless you lad, and many, many more happy ones.

Cheers,

Jim

rsr, why did you add the 2 to the end of your name? Just curious.

Oh yeah, I found out our friends' new baby girl's name is spelled Myka. The other three girls' names are also spelled different than you would expect. I won't attempt to spell them here.

Laurenda,
Got nosey and logged onto your homepage and Lancaster Baptist---enjoyed thumbin' and clickin' through the site---I remember reading and seeing advertisments for your church when "The Sword of the Lord" had me down for a trial subscription. They kept the subscription going for about a year and finally said somethin' like, "Pay up or else!"--but it was only a complimentary subscription. Anyway, the facilities are nice and I imagine the fellowship is sweet--I met and then fellowshipped with a bunch of independant boys on my last visit to FBC, Jacksonville--good guys!

My youth minister is still workin' on our web site--soon as he gets it done I'll post it--maybe before the Lord Jesus comes back--I keep tryin' to hurry him up but he won't listen.

Anyway, not much happenin'--I hear that Massey Ferguson and John Deere are good companies to buy stock in---just thought I'd put a bug in the ladies' ears. Now, I know! I know! No tractors in the coffee shop---but nobody has mentioned stock in the companies---and I checked the constitution and by-laws and by golly nothin' says I can't encourage that!!!

See ya'll tomorrow!

Ummmmmm! On that last post--I don't want anybody to take Blackbird out of context--don't go misquotin' me---but I made the comment---"I keep tryin' to hurry him up but he won't listen!"--that reference is to my youth minister and not the Lord Jesus!

"Well, Blackbird had a birthday yesterday and his precious Alabama wife baked him his favorite cake---Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese icin'! This here cake will knock your socks off--so, whoever wants to "get in good" with Blackbird, come on over and get ya'll a piece!"

Blackbirdy is forty four!

Now that the birthdays are all out of the way--its back to business--there's a few things I've noticed around the shop--that I thought I took care of long time ago!

I thought I had taken the juke box out to the dump--gotton rid of the thing! Of course, without Sherrie's permission, but . . . somebody's has done hauled it back in without consultin' Blackbird! And I see were somebody has used "Liquid Nails" to glue it down to the floor! Weeeeeel, I've got a plan! While ya'll are gone I'm gonna tinker with it---I'm gonna rig it to where it plays 45's at 78 speed!!!

Reminds me of a story--we were havin' a garage sale at church one day and one of our ladies brought in a child's battery powered "guitar"--the one where you turn it on and mash different buttons and it plays!! Well, at the time--my girl was three and my boy was 1---just old enough to handle it---and I thought it would be a good thing to have around the house---so I payed a dollar and the battery powered push button guitar was mine!!!! The lady who bought it to the church told me, "Brother David! My two girls have out grown this guitar!"---I didn't factor into account that her two girls were the same age as my two kids! The thought never entered my mind!

I take it home, overhauled it(put fresh batteries in) cleaned it up a little bit and in no time my two were playin'! It started out as classical--but as time went on--it was more along the lines of hard rock!!! Funny how battery powered guitars will grow on ya! It was absolutely drivin' this calm, peaceful Southern Baptist preacher up one wall and down the other!!

I'd lay down at night and would tell my wife--"Somethin's got to be done about that guitar! I'm about ready to call the men in the white suits to come get me!"

Well, to make a long story short--not long from when I started prayin' God's will be done on that guitar--one of our friends was havin' another garage sale at the local American Legion building. I'm thinkin, "Here's my chance to put that guitar out of my misery!!"

So I move the guitar OUT of the house by stealth! I make my way on over to where the friend has this sale and I put it on the table---I'm safe--it turns out to be a neighborhood sale where if you're a buddy of my buddy--you can get in on it! So I put the guitar on the table where the kid stuff goes!!

Get the scene now! I'm there at the garage sale!! My buddy has some "man" things there I was lookin' at---a few pocket knives, barbecue utensils, cigarette lighters, etc. Well, along about that time one of my deacon's and his wife walk into the buildin'--he joins me over at the "man" table and we're talkin' "man" talk--I'm eyein' his wife over near the children's section. Now, she ain't shopliftin' or nothin'--but the reason I was eyein' her was because she picks up that guitar that I had brought over!! She's lookin' at it--and I could tell that the little squirrel was really peddlin' hard in her mind!!!!!!

She holds on to the guitar and drops it off at the cashier's booth--after payin' HIS hardearned money for it---she walks over to where we were--that guitar in her hand!! She looks at her husband like she had just purchased a brand new Cadillac!! Then she says, "I bought this guitar for you, Brother David! I just know your kids will really love playin' it!!"

"Yes M'am! Yeeeeeeeesss, M'am!!"

And I have asked the good Lord why bad things have to happen to such good folks!! Have you ever asked Him that??

Your Southern Baptist preachin', guitar strummin' buddy!

Blackbird; My SIL works at a John Deere factory in Wisconsin and several months ago they started sending all the material to Mexico for them to make the parts.

My SIL's salary has been cut in half and a lot of people have been laid off because Mexico is making all the parts much cheaper now.

Just thought you might like to know that little tidbit.

Well that stinks Sue!

But that is just like Harley Motorcycles. Not Mexico, but Japan! And I love riding on the back of a harley. It has been a long time, but I do love it.

Its all about the big companies make all the money, and all the little people sink farther, and farther into debt, and eventually have nothing.

I live in Maytag's hometown. Rumor is that everything is going to end up in Reynosa, Mexico and its sad to think about that. Lots of friends & family work here at headquarters.

Good Morning Sherrie,

I hope everything is going smoothly at the Coffee Shop, a bit early yet tho. It is bright and sunny here at the moment but keeps coming over cloudy, I think we have rain to come in from Ireland.

Blackbird...I didn't know it was your birthday..I hope you had a good day. I am afraid I don't know how to do all those wonderful pics and things the others do on their posts. I spose I could have made you a cake if I had had a bit more notice...

Well, i have to choose between housework or study...which shall it be...

Catch you guys later,

Bye for now

Good morning all. Cheers in the Lord.

Sue, now you know how we felt in Canada when the so-called Free Trade came into effect. We lost factories and thousands of jobs to the USA because plant operations and parts were made cheaper in the USA.

Global effects don't trouble us until it strikes home, does it? Perhaps the political people should have built in wage and price controls and protected jobs so that all three countries would benefit and raise the standards of living in Mexico, and not just provide low-wage jobs.

Cheers,

Jim
