The Colorado Springs Guidelines, which is a statement on gender-related language in and translation of Scripture, is often referenced in discussions of Bible translations (e.g. Denny Burk, Tim Bayly, Tom Schreiner, and in our HCSB to the CSB thread). These guidelines were drawn up in May 1997 and revised September 1997. How important are they? How widely known and regarded are they? The original guidelines were only signed by 12 people, and the revision only signed by 10 of these 12 people. That's not very many people, even though they are some well-known names in evangelical circles (e.g. James Dobson, Wayne Grudem, John Piper, Vern S. Poythress, R. C. Sproul). On the other hand, the guidelines have been endorsed after the fact by a wide array of evangelicals.

Revised Colorado Springs Guidelines, September of 1997

So what do you think? Are these guidelines important and influential? Representative of a widespread viewpoint? Noticed by Bible translators? A solution looking for a problem to solve? Something else?
