THE COMMON GROUND COFFEE HOUSE #26

Thankful

Norman has probably doubled in size since 1988. We now have five exits off I-35. We have over 100,000 people. Sometimes we are the third largest city in the state and somestimes Lawton is. Depends on if they count Ft. Sill or not.
I know you are familiar with that area. :(

I have lived in Dallas. I really liked it but that was years ago. It is too large for me now.

I came to Norman 9 years ago (temporally) to assist my son and his family, but I really like it, stayed and now it is diffently my home.

Children and grandchildren are close by.

Most important answer first... Jim and I married in 1970 and we lived in the north for the majority of our 33 years of marriage. The last winter in Connecticut we had a total of 60" of snow. I loved it and always have. We'd dress warmly and walk for hours in the snow as it fell. We had one of those LARGE snow throwers with the rubber tracks for wheels. It was quite easy to use. Our house was on the corner so we had to do the side walk on both sides. We'd always do the older lady next door too.

I LOVE snow. I LOVE sweaters and muffs. I really miss the winter weather. I saw my first REAL snow fall right before Christmas when I was 20. The flakes were gigantic! To me they looked like they were as large as saucers. They were so very large that they floated and fell like feathers, wafting side to side. I MISS the north for that reason but love the south for the churches!

Diane - You were married in 1970, too? Do we have an "anniversary" list by year somewhere around here? Wonder how many of us were married around that same time?

Northern Wisconsin (think 100 inches of snow, -50F, pine trees and lakes) was our home. Makes the little bit of "winter" here in Casper pale in comparison.

Sheila - just hold your breath while going through the tunnel!

Diane - move back north - then you'll have all the snow you want!

Dr. Bob, we have an anniversary list with the year included in the Member's Private Forum. It is featured at the top with the birthday list.

The only posters I have on there are the ones who have given me their anniversaries or birthdays. I don't go looking for them.

Good Morning All!

30º and cloudy with 24 mph winds this morning, which gives us a wind chill of 11º.

This week I will be making 'microwave' Peanut Brittle, Alaska Logs, Rocky Road Candy and dipping some pretzels in chocolate, plus the usual decorated sugar cookies (for the grands of course!)...

Oh Sue! Share that microwave peanut brittle recipe with us! I can't eat it but hubby and the boys can! I don't dare eat anything hard! LOL

I'm glad you got your Christmas gifts finished. There's commercial with a baby girl in a beautiful crocheted hat and everytime I see it, I think of you and your busy hands. LOL

WAKE UP everyone!

Dan: No, I'm sorry. That's why my kids and grands will be eating it instead of me.

Diane: I will post the recipe in the Holiday section of the Women's Forum. It only takes 10 minutes to make a pound!

I am going to have to invest in a ski mask and battery operated gloves for the corner...My glasses not only 'fogged up' this morning, they had ice crystals on them!

I had my scarf around my face and the steam from my breath fogged my glasses and the strong, cold winds ICED them!
laugh.gif

Wind kept blowing my scarf off and it was SO windy, I could not even carry my stop sign, just had to use hand signals!

I will be back, gonna put a chicken on to boil so I can make enough chicken and noodles for supper and a gallon to freeze.

I need to warm up!

Neat! Thanks for the recipe!
Hey... That must be awful to have the ice crystals forming like that.

Wonder if you could get a cardboard stop sign and make a front and back type thing to wear over your shoulders on windy days!

I wear an orange and yellow reflective vest. When that metal stop sign hits you in the face or on the head because of the wind.......you know it! I liked the plastic signs they used to have much better. Plus the metal one has VERY sharp corners!

Good Heavens! I just occurred to me. Is this a diabetic Baptist Board? How many of us are there?I'm a member of that club too, the insulin-dependent variety.

There are quite a few here Debby. I have found some really nice diabetic recipe sites. I am not diabetic, but am on a low-carb diet. So I look for low-carb recipes for me and diabetic recipes for my BB friends!

Jim said that reminds him of the many years he spent delivering newspapers in Aurora, Illinois. He said he had to wear a ski mask. He'd worn glasses since he was twelve but when they removed his cataracts they fixed his vision too.

Gosh Sue. That must be an awful cold!

Debby, we have a lot of diabetic members! Praise God, I'm not. We should actually have a whole recipe thread for diabetic recipes and maybe one for diet recipes too. They guys know they are welcome to join us on the open women's forum.

So I'm just wondering... How many of you will avoid crowds and places like malls, Chuck E. Cheese, movie theaters, etc. until we know how bad the flu season is going to be?

We got Nick the flu shot a week ago today. Jim and I had ours in Oct. but it seems this isn't the 'right' strain and might only be 30% protective. I had a lot of children absent from S/S yesterday. Out of 17 on role we had only 4 children and 2 adults. I've told Nick no to Chuck E. Cheese for a while.

I will avoid malls, not because of the flu, but because I dislike CROWDS!!! :D

Good evening, everybody!!!

I went to our Christmas music at church last night, and it was really "different". So "different" in fact, that I kept looking at the program (and my watch) wondering when it would be over. I rarely do that because I usually get caught up in the music or the words and really worship; however I didn't last night. That's too bad, because I love the music and the message of Christmas. But this one was just a bit "edgy" for me. :(

Am going to a deacon officer Christmas dinner tomorrow night...I'm not a deacon officer (or the wife of one); however, I was invited because our deacon ministry falls under our pastor and I work for him so I do a lot of "stuff" for the deacon ministry during year.

Then Thursday night is our staff Christmas party. That also falls under our pastor's responsibility, so besides getting it organized, I will be attending as a staff member!!

After that, it should be all downhill! I STILL need to wrap packages and figure out what I am contributing to Christmas dinner, but I can do that this weekend.

I will be OFF starting Dec. 24th until Jan. 5th!!! Yea!!! I can hardly wait!!
