I am "MissKitty62656" on the Atkins board as well as AIM and Yahoo Messengers...

Tater: Are you on either of those Instant Messengers. I have questions I think you could help me with, because there are so many forums on the Atkins site, I don't know where to post!

If not; would you mind if I emailed you?

Thanks!

Fructose Sweetener Linked to Obesity Rise

Thu Mar 25,11:38 AM ET
By STEVE HARTSOE, Associated Press Writer

RALEIGH, N.C. - Researchers say they've found more evidence of a link between a rapid rise in obesity and a corn product used to sweeten soft drinks and food since the 1970s.

The researchers examined consumption records from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (news - web sites) for 1967-2000 and combined it with previous research and their own analyses.

You ahve to be cardful of fruitose sweetened foods. It says sugar free, and it has no refined white sugar. But fruitose is a fruit sugar. It is still a sugar, and it has the same negative effects, and it will raise blood glucose.

I use Splenda as a sweetener, these days. I started getting it even before I played with the Atkins diet. I am really frustrated as far as my diet is concerned, I just don't have enough veggies to last the week. The Atkins diet really did good for me in January, but then I just had to quit. I need to get back on it, though, because carbs tend to make my blood sugar go up.

I rarely use a sweetener. (only Splenda when I do) I guess I made some sweet tea a few weeks back, but I really just dont like it anymore.

I use splenda, I like it, it tastes like sugar. But I don't use sweetener very often anyway, usually only when I make my 1/2 cup bowl of oatmeal.

Has anyone checked out all the great diet recipes in the women's forum. I've made several of the one I've posted and liked them a lot, Sue has made some of hers too.

renmar, has your doctor sent you to a dietitian? Has either of them given you a carb limit per day? If so how did that work for you? If you could not keep your blood sugar down with that have you discussed that with your doctor?
Are you on insulin or oral meds? Your dosage may need to be adjusted. You actually need some carbs to keep your blood sugar from dropping too low. Mine does if I eat lunch late,or get hungry midday even if it isn't lunch time yet. I keep the glucose tablets in my purse for when I am not at home midday.

My diet is on hold right now. I am being tested for diabetes Thursday.

I have 8 of the symptoms and my mother and all three of my siblings developed diabetes in their 60's-70's. It is probably my turn.

That will change my diet plans.........

I'm concerned because Sue had her doctor's appointment today at 11:00 and she's not come back on line. Do pray she's okay!

I'm sorry all for causing concern.

Sorry I didn't get back on yesterday - I was having puter problems. It kept freezing up and booting me off line just like Diane's did last week - must be catching.

I am scheduled for a bunch of tests that I couldn't take yesterday because I have to fast first.

I am also scheduled to have several (9)suspicious 'things' taken off my body and sent in for biopsies.

The treadmill and EKG were skipped and I am scheduled instead for a test that I'm not sure what it is called. They shoot meds (via IV) into your heart to try and make you have a heart attack and then they take pictures. I was told to stay away from metal detectors for 2 days after!

Anyway, for now, I a fine because I won't know if anything is wrong until I take the tests and the results came back.

I DID have to buy a brace for 'tennis elbow'.

Thank you all for being concerned and thank you for praying - don't stop just yet.

I am so confused.

The low fat diet
The the low carb diet
The Akins Diet
The South Beach Diet
Weight Watchers Diet
Diabetic Diet
The Heart Diet
The Grapefruit and Egg Diet
Dr. Phil's Diet
The Liquid Diet
The Apple Diet
The Starvation Diet

That's all I can remember right now, but I know there are many, many more.

My pastor's wife is losing weight on The South Beach Diet.

My DIL is losing weight on Dr. Phil's Diet. She says all one has to do is eat sensibly and healthy. What is sensible? What is healthy?

I can remember when we were supposed to eat a meat, two veggies, a starch, a fruit, and dairy for a meal.

Now we have the pyramid!

Personally for me, I nearly have to starve myself to lose weight. The only way I lose weight is to increase my exercise and count calories. If I don't like something, I will not eat it. The Weight Watchers Diet worked for me, but I couldn't eat as much food as they suggested and lose weight. I am a lifetime member of Weight Watchers.

My husband has high cholesterol. He should be on a low fat diet, but if he is on a low fat diet that is a high carb diet. If he goes on a low carb diet, the fat is high. You can see I am really confused. Am I the only one?

I need help!

I read the Atkins diet book. It SEEMED great, only it does not break down the difference between good fat and bad fat. Yes, there are actually good fats. Dh just recently got the South Beach diet books-at the recommendation of our family doctor after our physicals.

One of the pet peeves that both DH and I have with "diets" is that you do not "diet" for a while and then go back to eating normal. We all have "diets"-a diet is what we eat.

Here is what has helped dh and I, maybe it will help you and Ed too.

Don't view it as a "diet". View it as changing your eating habits.

We started South Beach-not even officially started-just changed the things we ate-approx 3 week ago. In that time, dh has lost 15 lbs, and I have lost 10. We have not increased a whole lot our activity. Just added a family walk once or twice a week. Perhaps, your local library has a copy of the South Beach book for you to look and see if you are interested in it.
