thats more than silly...
1Jn:1:5: This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
God IS Light. Its silly to think you must say well God could be darkness but He just chooses to be light...

Yup.Silliness abounds, but from the normally sane Mr Chemintz.....

-
 -
Okay now to the depths of silliness...
God COULD OF been Satan but He just chose to be God...
well you know what? He wouldnt be God if He were Satan.
Oh yeah and not only that but God COULD BE hate, but He just chose to be love -
By the way, have you ever noticed that the Devil's name has the word evil in it?
So one would think you'd pronouce his name
"The Deevil" -
-
chemitz,
that was supposed to be funny, you know, like a joke... I just thought of that the other day ...that the devil has the word evil in it... and thought it was interesting.
it has nothing at all to do with this discussion, just adding a little humor.... or at least trying to -
In fact your senerio that God is both all powerfull and cannot do something is exactly like the heavy rock question.
All Powerfull = can do anything. -
Look this is easy if God has limits on what He can do then he is not ALL powerful.
The word ALL means there are no limits to His power. -
xdx, you are leaning to your own understanding of scripture, failing to acknowledge Him.
The author and finisher of your faith is pure, a cognate of Holy. As pure, radiant, loving truth, God does not contemplate a lie, just as Jesus, in his manifestation as 100% God and 100% man, did not contemplate living anything other than a pure, radiant, loving life before us. He did not carry about the weight of choices.
Imagine yourself in the Alps in October, your face set existentially purposefully and permanently into the wind, without even the slightest hint of a milli-milli-second of "doing". Nothing, no thing, has the slightest chance of entering in to your presence there, not because you are resisting it, but because you are purposed. There is no difference between the "your" and "presence" there. They are one.
This thing of applying "choice" as an aspect of God's perfection is flawed. In God's perfection, all of everything has been subsumed in His Holiness ~~ He is Holy. Period. Nowhere in His Holiness is there a conversation about what choices He will make. God does not weigh, categorize, rationalize. His light shines brightly, steadfastly, without thought of source or ability or how long His light will last. He purposed before the foundation of the world. Think about that.
We cannot measure God. We cannot develop a list of attributes and apply them to Him. God is. He is. I AM. In Him there is no shadow of turning. Dig deeply into scripture after falling on your knees, asking God to heal your mental juggling. When that happens, you'll be another giant among the many in Christendom, providing healthy instruction to those who seek Him.
:flower: -
I agree here also. "Choice" is not the right way to put it. God does not sit there and say should I lie or not and choose not to. He does not need to weigh choices like we do because along with being all powerfull He is all knowing and Holy.
But to say he CANNOT do something is also wrong even if He will never lie never even think of lieing never even consider for a milli milli second lieing being ALL powerful means he could lie.
He just will not. -
Why does God even have to be all powerful? Does this mean God can sin?
Can he? Be careful what you answer!
It think you don't quite understand what God's nature is. -
God being ALL Powerfull can do whatever he wants. I am just glad he is Holy. -
Xdisciple, I am just starting to read some of your other posts. Maybe you should hold off on judging my understanding of God's nature untill you get yourself squaired away.
To be clear. It is not in God's nature to lie or sin. His nature is Holy, but that does not limit His power. God can do anything but His nature is pure and holy. -
God cannot do anything. If God could sin he would not be God but I think you don't understand this. :wavey:
-
"God" is not a title. He can not loose his "God". He is God it is what He is no matter what He does.
Like I say it is good that He is Holy and Good. -
Let's imagine it this way. Imagine a circle. God is in the circle. And now imagine a dot outside of the circle. The dot is Satan. Satan is outside of God. Satan is the father of lies. Lie comes from Satan, he invented it. God has nothing to do with Satan. Lying is not IN his nature. He cannot lie because it goes against what he is. It's not IN him. -
He will not lie because it goes against what he is. It's not IN him. -
God did not create Satan. God created Lucifer who became Satan. :type:
