I posted this in another thread. My question is "Are there any KJVO's here who stand in opposition to Mel Gibson's film "The Passion of The Christ", and if so, is there an inherent double standard in such a stand?
An observation:
Many of those who display such animosity regarding the film have oftentimes based their opposition largely on the fact that it was produced by a staunch Roman Catholic.
It occurs to me that a staunch Roman Catholic (Desiderius Erasmus) produced the Textus Receptus, the textual basis for the King James Version of the Bible.
Are those who oppose the film because it was produced by a Catholic also going to now renounce the KJV?

Interesting question. I am not KJVO nor am I against the movie. May I add my observation based on the posts?
If so, here it is:
It appears to me that there are certain people who are, how to put this without making it sound like an attack, because it isn't, well, they are "hardliners" or "ultra-conservative" and they seem to be both KJVOs and many of these same people do not like the movie.
Although, on the other hand there are some other "hardliners" who hate the movie and are very strong in their beliefs, but they are not KJVO.
Your question is good, I hope to hear some answers from the KJVO group. -
I wonder what the filmmakers' Scriptural basis was for the crow that plucked out the thief's eyes?

Too me, If you are KJVO, you have no choice but to NOT like the movie.
It didn't use KJV language.
To be KJVO and then praise the movie would be hypocritical. -

Hi Psalms 145, thanks for the link to the Erasmus article.
This may surprise some people and disappoint others, but I have seen The Passion twice now, and overall think it was very well done and will definitely lead some people to the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour.
I know there are some Catholic influences in the movie (I expected that) and some extra Biblical things added, but overall there is a lot of Scripture and a person who knows nothing about the Bible would not come away thinking about Mary, but rather about Jesus Christ and why He did what He did.
Several of my Christian friends have also seen it and thought it was a very powerful witness for the Lord.
I have seen all the negative stuff about it, mostly by people who never saw it, but I personally think there was far more good for the glory of God, than stuff that was not good.
I am definitely not a Catholic, nor a Catholic sympathizer, and I am a King James Only. I would recommend the movie to anyone.
I found it profoundly moving. It made me appreciate more what our Lord did for a vile sinner like me.

Thanx for the info, JohnV, but I was wondering if I'd missed something about a crow in the umpteen times I've read the Scriptures? I DO learn something new9to me) every time I read any of my Bibles!
And Will, I also agree with you for once, about the movie. However, I suspect that Jesus suffered far more than even that movie conveyed.
Isaiah 50:6 "I offered my back to those who beat me, my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard;
I did not hide my face from mocking and spitting."
Any of you ever have any of your beard yanked out? I did, years ago in a fight, and even in the heat of battle, IT HURT IMMENSELY! And this Scripture seems to indicate ALL of Jesus' beard was yanked out.
isaiah 52:14 "As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men:"
Such a beating would've killed any ordinary man. He was marred by the whips, fists, & whatever else the Romans may have struck Him with.
Once again, I think the movie only HINTS at the amount of physical abuse Jesus endured for our sakes! Even after all that, He lived six hours on the cross, most likely in more pain than any ordinary man in history ever endured. There's no way any of us can even begin to repay Him for what He-GOD-did for us, except to give Him what He asks-our love and obedience! -
My, Will I am beginning to see you in a different light. I read your testimony in another thread and I see where you are coming from now. Now, we agree on the Passion.
I know you are KJVO, did that enter into your mind when you watched the movie?
seriously, how much debate gets into your worship? -
Excuse me gentlemen, Let me just say, I am a good Baptist, if I may:
Sorry Phillip, this is the best question I have ever seen asked on this board as if you had to ask

The most often heard question regarding the film from non-believers (that I and other church members friends have heard) is "why did He have to suffer so much, if he was the Son of God?" Obviously, they got the point that Mel claimed he wanted them to get. How much our Lord suffered for us...
If that question isn't an opening for witnessing? What is it?
I can say one thing it is not: It is not the time to tell the person that "they just saw a movie that was full of Catholic mistakes". Do you think that remark would keep their interest long enough to explain Jesus' sacrifice? I would think not.
For this reason alone, I do not understand why people cannot just accept the fact that millions will see it, whether or not we think they should--I think Jesus may just hold us accountable to how we answer the question.
That's what it all boils down to.
The fact that the movie is or is not going to do good or has Catholic symbolism has not bearing. Or even the Aramaic statement for "would you take my laundry please", which I'm sure is deeply embedded in every viewer's subconscious. All of these issues are now moot. -
