Well, their election is only a week away, and AMLO looks like he's got a double-digit lead in the polls, but been there, done that, in 2006 and 2012. You know if he somehow loses, he's going to say the election was rigged and the results illegitimate.

He could be right, this is a Mexican election and he has promised amnesty for "his people". His latest garbage is just an appeal to Mexicans here to vote for him, even anchor babies can vote in their elections and that broke for his opponents the other two times.

And, no, AMLO isn't proposing open borders for HIS country, you have to remember the far-left in Mexico are conquistadors, they consider much of the US Northern Mexico already.

What I'm afraid of, if he wins next week, the upper class in Mexico will leave, both with their assets and their feet because AMLO will "give to the poor" (about half of the Mexican population) and that will make their corrupt nation fail totally. The American left don't understand that there really is no Mexican middle-class, it's made up of Spanish descendants ruling over the indigenous brown people. One of the most racist nations in the world.

Excellent post! I am sick about this election.

More on AMLO. Apparently, he is thick with the drug cartels and can travel without a bodyguard because he is more or less one of them. No one is sure what will happen if he is defeated but if he wins, maybe the middle-class will show up at our borders.

From an American Thinker column today:

Mr. Trump understands perfectly what conventional Republicans have no clue about. You need to put a face on your opposition. First it was Crooked Hillary, then Little Rocket Man. Now it will be the Border Bandit, AMLO, smuggling drugs and trafficking children. AMLO is going to be such an obvious villain, and Mr. Trump is going to take such delight in exposing him, that even the most dull-witted voters may eventually see what's really at stake in trying to keep our southern border secure.

Mexico is run now by their drug cartels, this AMLO guy is making inroads into running against corruption and crime. I still think this week is his best chance yet, although it could actually benefit the US in the short term if he wins - that wall will go up in a heartbeat with a Mexican Chavez at the helm.

AMLO is polling at least ten points ahead, think that Meade guy is the only was to stop him. Not sure, but there is probably a hidden anti-AMLO vote and the polls could be over-polling the young and the poor, that's what happened there the last two times. The PAN guy, Anaya, is unpopular with his own party to the point Fox and Calderone won't endorse him. His first election, but AMLO was a very well-liked mayor. They are all buying as many votes as they can.

AMLO claims if he wins he's going to answer every one of Trump's tweets, wow, hardcore. NAFTA is dead anyways. Trump should continue to stay out of it, AMLO is a totally different breed of nationalist/populist than Trump is - AMLO is far, far , left, even by Mexican standards.

Now Cuban communist dissident Silvio Canto is calling AMLO the Mexican Obama. AMLO is like Obama in that he is an oily-tongued politician who speaks a lot of words and makes a lot of promises but is sketchy on details.

My friend Allan Wall compiled this list of “promesas” or promises:

To bring about the Fourth Transformation of Mexico, without violence. (By “fourth transformation,” AMLO means after one, Independence; two, The Reform; and three, The Revolution.)

To End corruption.

To establish the “kingdom of justice” upon the earth.

To only earn half the presidential salary of current president Peña Nieto; to not have as president a fleet of planes and helicopters.

In the southern state of Oaxaca, to finish turnpikes to the coast and the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, and to give teachers a pay raise

AMLO says he won’t live in Los Pinos, he will sell the federal government’s planes and helicopters, and that high-ranking functionaries will have to get medical attention at ISSSTE, Seguro or Seguro Popular and not private medical care paid for by the government.

The Soconusco region of Chiapas will be one of the most prosperous in Mexico.

To have a government of “republican austerity,” which would include lowering the salaries of “those above to increase the salaries of those below.” Better salaries would be given to teachers, nurses, doctors, police, soldiers, and government workers. A “government without luxuries.” He promises to sell the presidential plane, not to reside in Los Pinos – opening it to the public, to fight corruption, and to improve Mexico’s image abroad.

A universal pension for the elderly.

To work closely with the private sector.

To have 4% economic growth.

To invite the Pope, and other religious and social leaders of the world and Mexico, to study and solve the problem of violence in Mexico.

It would be miraculous if a fifth of those promises were fufilled, ending corruption in Mexico is a tall glass of water to fill.

Today's the day, it has been a literal killer election down there:

haven't seen an exit poll yet I am afraid desperate times will lead to desperate measures and AMLO is going to win it this time as a result.

Because of the Mexican economy, I think that AMLO will accomplish little. The PRI ran out of ideas decades ago. PAN elected Fox who went crazy. I like PAN and would like to see them not be left in the panaderia.

I myself think AMLO will kill NAFTA, which is good. The narcoterrorists will still murder at will in the beautiful provincial areas of Mexico.

Trump will probably have to use the military to shut the border down because the American rich want cheap labor and will try to block construction of a wall.

Six years of AMLO probably will cause poor Mexicans to beg the USA for admission.

What do you think?

I think itll be far sooner. Far far sooner. There is a reason he's calling it their right to flood our border illegally.
