Apparently the vast right wing conspiracy includes the New York Times....
-------
David Brock’s war against the New York Times just went nuclear — and the paper is responding with equal fury.
Brock, the former right-wing journalist-turned-pro-Clinton crusader, takes aim at a top New York Times editor in a soon-to-be released book obtained by POLITICO. In the book, titled "Killing the Messenger: The Right-Wing Plot to Derail Hillary Clinton and Hijack Your Government,” Brock accuses senior politics editor and former Washington bureau chief Carolyn Ryan of helping to turn the paper into a “megaphone for conservative propaganda” by unfairly targeting former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
The founder of liberal watchdog groups Media Matters and Correct the Record casts Bill and Hillary Clinton, whom he tormented in the 1990s as a reporter with the American Spectator, as personal and political angels who offered him access to some of the Democratic Party’s biggest donors.

Now this a 180 degree turn from what has been the standard line of thought about the NYT. Through the years, the NYT has been considered just slightly right of Pravda.

David Brock as cited in the OP. Me, I'm still in the slightly right of Pravda camp.

The NYT is conservative? That is a new one. What was that fellow in the OP smoking?

I've got an online subscription to the Washington Post and they are nowhere near as leftist as the chart indicates. They've got George Will, Charles Krauthammer, Jennifer Rubin and others. I can't think of one conservative on the Huff Post, for example. -

Regardless, the point is that the NYT really is not right-wing unless someone has shifted the goalposts greatly. -

Maybe the NYTimes actually just reports things accurately (mostly) and at times appears liberal, at other times conservative, and then often in the middle.

Many journalists, such as Robert Parry, methodically note the propaganda of the self-proclaimed “paper of record”, but some fall into the trap of thinking that NYT has only recently started “becoming” a propaganda rag, or has been “descending” into propaganda for the last ten or twenty years. As a few examples illustrate, this is a misconception.

My opinion as stated above was formed forty some odd years ago. And the NYT's condition probably predates that by a good long time.

Among the executives who lent their cooperation to the Agency were Williarn Paley of the Columbia Broadcasting System, Henry Luce of Tirne Inc., Arthur Hays Sulzberger of the New York Times, Barry Bingham Sr. of the LouisviIle Courier‑Journal, and James Copley of the Copley News Service. Other organizations which cooperated with the CIA include the American Broadcasting Company, the National Broadcasting Company, the Associated Press, United Press International, Reuters, Hearst Newspapers, Scripps‑Howard, Newsweek magazine, the Mutual Broadcasting System, the Miami Herald and the old Saturday Evening Post and New York Herald‑Tribune.
By far the most valuable of these associations, according to CIA officials, have been with the New York Times, CBS and Time Inc.

So are we in agreement? My forty years plus would start in your time frame. Though, mine is based less on CIA connections and more on the general acceptance of Socialist\Marxist principles by the media elites.

I'm sure that plays a role also along with human nature of going along for the money.
There is an old adage that goes something like this: “It takes many good deeds to build a good reputation, and only one bad one to lose it.” For the media houses of Wall Street and London their “good reputation” wasn’t even really built up upon good deeds. Their reputation was built up upon endemic ignorance throughout the general public, fancy suits, and million-dollar studios. Reputation was built upon marketing, something Wall Street and London understand very well.
