    Hello sag38

    You said.......
Don’t be too quick to make judgements about me.

No, my wife(just as all the other women), is allowed to speak in Church.

But whenever I come to this passage in my devotional study, I question myself and ask the Lord if I am doing things right, by allowing the women in Church to ask questions.
    --------------------------------------------------
    I do recall, about 12 years ago, during a business meeting, one of the wives of the men in attendance, started to question the authority of the Church;
Which forced me to take the Church to this verse.

I did not want to, but it had to be done.

    Hi ktn4eg

    You asked.......
No, I am not saying that; Because I haven’t seen that in the Bible.

But, the issue of the OP, is “women in Church”.
    --------------------------------------------------
For instance; In 1 Corinthians 11:, we read that a woman needs to have her head covered, while praying or teaching(children), at Church and her long hair is a head covering.
The passage also tells us, that for a woman to worship without a head covering, she dishonors her head(her husband).

In the same passage, men are told not to wear a head covering(long hair or a hat), during prayer or teaching, or he will dishonor his head(Christ).

I personally never wear a hat, but sometimes during yard work, I have to, but I still hate to; Because many times, while working I will be praying, and I don’t want do dishonor my head.
But my wife points out to me, that this instruction only applies to Church.

    Hello again Salty

    You asked........
Those are great questions; But I never said that I had all the answers.

But I do know, that anyone(male or female), that has a heart, that wants to submit to God and His Word, will receive personal guidance in this area.

Our attitude is what is most important.
We might be following every Biblical instruction, but have a bad attitude, that will get us in big trouble with the Lord.
While someone else, who's circumstances force them to not follow every instruction, yet they have a loving Christlike spirit and a heart that wants to be obedient, and the Lord will cut them some slack.

You know, interestingly enough, this is actually true. Were it not for Eve we might indeed not be in the mess we are in.

I post this for argument sake, not necessarily saying it is so.

This drive-by posting is totally unhelpful. I think the brother to whom you are responding is wrong, as do you, but this post makes no arguments which is what a DEBATE site is supposed to be about.

Why don't you undermine his argument with a counterargument or don't post?

Every time this topic comes up, I start humming that song from the Wizard of Oz that contains the line

If I only had a heart, some courage, a brain. Emphasis on the BRAIN!

I certainly don't usurp my husband's authority, but I really can read the Bible on my own and form opinions (as can he) and we've had some excellent discussions over our Bible readings over the years.

Laughing at TT and picturing his sweet wife throwing the popcorn bowl at him

I didn't know you were a woman, but at any rate this isn't church.

In all seriousness, I think it's possible that Paul was addressing a particular problem in the Corinthian church. Paul also talks about women prophesying in the church assembly, which requires talking so obviously he didn't forbid all talking by women.

and to piggy back on this, how many times have we seen men speak out of turn and cause trouble in or bring shame to a church. IMHO this is a human condition related to sin, not gender.

Yes, I think this is the crux of the matter and often a problem when one verse is
focused on with the exclusion of others.

I notice that no one has addressed the passage in the OP.

How do we explain what Paul is talking about here? What is he saying?

Not as often as I have seen men speak out and cause big trouble and shame in a church ... and yes I am serious about this answer.

I agree with others who say that Paul was writing to a specific problem, or specific problems within the church at Corinth.

I may be wrong, but I believe the key to the passage lies in verse 33 …

The church at Corinth was known for its problems. More problems rose within this church than in the other churches Paul visited.

Women's place in the church? In the pulpit. in the choir. in the classroom, in the nursery, in the parking lot, in the world, in the office, in the hall, in the bathroom. It depends on where God wants them.

Some women don't have a man at home, Corinthian women may have had several men at home. I would have to ask a man that question. Any recommendations?
