Until then his audience will only be those who are like-minded. -

He spends very little time explaining what the "public option" is.
The vast majority of the time is spent dumping on anyone that disagrees.
It's funny that they choose to show a picture of bad old Joe Wilson.
And Reich lies.
He said that the public option will not be subsidized.
Lie.
Several hundred billion dollars of taxpayer money is a HUGE SUBSIDY.
He said that no one will be setting any rules.
Lie.
Part of the bill(s) is to tell insurance companies what coverages they must include.
By the way, it would have been more informative if he had pointed out that the same practice of pushing providers - meaning doctors - for lower prices in Medicare and Medicaid results in fewer doctors participating in the program.
We will see the same thing with the public option.
Just another liberal democrat liar.
Have they no shame? -
I watched the video. On the surface it sounds very good. Reich did a great presentation, it was simple and easy to understand. I give him an A+ for communications skills.
But....
His argument is this (or at least what I perceived); He is basically saying that private enterprise is corrupt and evil, and that government is not. He said that "cooperatives" are designed to fail. Really? Do you really believe private companies are designed to fail? And what does he mean by fail?
Look, if you freed up insurance companies (presently controlled by government) to offer coverage to all states, that alone would provide tremendous competition to drive rates down. Yes, private companies are greedy, but that works in the marketplace, because they all compete against each other to get the largest share of business. When Wendy's started offering it's dollar menu, soon after all the other hamburger chains did the same. Competition works.
But much competition is stifled by the government in health care. Many drugs that could be purchased for much less are not allowed to be sold here by the FDA. Yes, some of these drugs have not been fully tested for safety, but many drugs that have been approved by other nations and have a good safety record are banned. Why? because the drug companies pay big bucks to the politicians to keep these competitive drugs out.
But you also need serious tort reform. Physicians pay tremendous sums for malpractice insurance driving the cost of care up. They must also perform many unnecessay tests and procedures so as not to be liable for malpractice. Let's say you go to the doctor to have a corn removed. The doctor does so. But he failed to give you tests that would have showed you had cancer. Now he can be held liable and sued because he did not diagnose your cancer. These are the kinds of problems that drive up your health cost.
The problem already is political corruption. Did you know that not one word was mentioned of tort reform or malpractice in the 1,200 page bill that was presented? Why? Because the trial lawyers are known to be heavy donors to the Democratic party.
So, can the politicians and government be trusted over private enterprise the way Reich portrays? I wouldn't bet on it. -
Anyone who watched that video knows that the real message was to further incite discord amongst people and maybe even indoctrinate others who are riding the fence. -
When his dream of the public option comes true and seniors are denied health care under one justification or another - Robert Reich and the Third Reich will have in more in common. -
