Thoughts: Me thinks Mr. Carter was the wrong man for the job--who appointed him? He may be made a scapegoat for many of our present-day woes; but he is only one person. Our body politic is still in the throes of partisan politics, racism, abortion, and Christmas profits. The relentless pursuit of "black gold" is in the mix as well. Our moral decadence preceeds Mr.Carter in the White House by many decades. Mankind is depraved--including popes and potentates.
Right or wrong, Mr. Carter was honest--a rare trait of character inside the beltway.
Herbert Hoover ought to be on the inept list too.
Now what? I need to look in the mirror again--with the lights--on.

FDR did a smear job on Herbert Hoover that continues to this day. Herbert Hoover was one of the most capable men in the world in his day. However, he was a Republican president with a Democrat congress. FDR really began the smear of the GOP that continues to this day. Once PBS ran a documentary telling how FDR smeared Samuel Insull, Chicago businessman who brought electricity to Chicago. FDR had him tried for securities fraud as a scapegoat when FDR had to know that the failure in Chicago was just part of the general stock market crash. Insull was acquited but FDR had ruined him for no good reason.
FDR was a lifelong playboy and a wealthy man who leaned towards socialism. He died with his mistress-secretary in Warm Springs, Georgia, as we all know. Someday, most of FDR's work must be undone or it will sink the country in entitlements that cannot be paid.

Jimmy Carter has embarassed himself by being too cozy with left wing dictators and by saying things about a sitting President that is not appropriate for a former President to do. Carter's own presidency was a disastor. He would do well to stick with charity work.

In 20/20 retrospect, we have elected and re-elected some real questionable characters, depending on one's party affiliation of course. How did we do that? Voting apathy. Voting ought to be a requirement for citizenship--if you do not vote you lose your "rights". We are still having difficulty with women's suffrage and blacks voting. We have a long standing political bias which has been handed down through those who have the gold--yellow and black. We have forgotten what "one nation under God" means. We will reap what we sow--as individuals and as a nation. God cannot bless us until we get it right.
FDR was not the first playboy in the Oval Office, nor the last. WJC,twice elected to lead our country, succeeded in smearing the office of president with his "indiscretions" which became public. Has he ever shown any remorse or repentance for anything other than "having been caught"?.(Seemingly,he is a very intelligent and smart(?) man.
The problem is not what he may have done, the problem is we did not hold him accountable; we just sort of white washed the whole matter.
WE do err by not taking the blame for the actions of whom WE elect. We are reaping exactly what we have sown--multiplied many times.

That may be a good idea--or try 50 free powerball tickets.
Free--maybe that is the problem--many take "free-dom" for granted and some are looking for a "free" lunch--we are in fact a borderline socialistic, welfare state. A large portion of our GNP goes to "handouts". The rest goes to China.
Re-start the WPA.

This part I certainly agree with.
"Carter was arguably the worst president in the history of the United States."
What's even worse is I voted for him...
the first time. -
Pericles guaranteed large audiances for theatre productions in ancient Athens by paying the spectators.
It should still work, not that it is a good idea.

Our money going to China--check out the passbook savings rate comparison: Bank of America--.5%/annum; Bank of China: 2.25%/per annum. That is 4.5 times more, according to my $1.00 pocket calculator--made in China.
The balance of trade is also very skewed: we buy 10 times more from them than they do from us.
Is it time to start buying Yen?

Do you think these apathetic non-voters think about the issues and keep themselves well informed? Do you think they have any idea about what our founders intended or about the constitution? I don't.
The disinterest of these non-voters isn't limited to one day. -

Good point. I still think there are enough "silent majority" out there who can overcome the special interest groups getting control of the polls. We saw some of them in the last election for President. They show up occasionally and unseat incumbents.

All Reagan had to do to free the hostages was to be elected.
Read someplace that after Carter lost his job in Washington he went to work for the Saudis. -
To me....as mediocre a President as Jimmy Carter was...he has no credibility to critize any other President, Democrat or Republican.
-
all day...does this represent you ..looking out
from a snow storm..oh I see I get your drift
1. Carter had to restore trust in the nation
after Nixon the crook was pardoned.
2.The big economic engine called the Vietnam
war was more than winding down and we still
were paying for its costs and draw down.
3.Carter was actually tough on the Soviet Union
and had top secret programs full throttle to
bankrupt them...Reagan and him agreed on this except B1B bomber the B2 suffered we should have
50 or 60 B2 bombers and not 100 operational?? B1B
bombers.
4.Carter really was a Christian who was not overly
into defending himself and that paid a toll as
it will in politics.
5.Iranian hostages if what the media did to Carter
today it would do to bush his poll numbers would
be in th 20 percentile range..Ted Koppel savaged
Carter.
5. It is easy to play Monday morning QB with those
years and they were years of enormous inflation
and it was his fault to a large degree..Carter
was almost and Independent in the White House because he got it from 2 sides Republicans and
Kennedy style Democrats.
6.By the time Reagan took over the cycle of the
economy was ready to head up and he infused more
money into Defense which benefited me personally
and made me proud to build great programs that
defend us today.
7.Carter in my view did not fight back hard enough
and again because of his Christianity and humbleness..but that does help him now by doing
things he sees that are right and just..he still
has a heart for human rights and that is his
freedom to do so and it speaks well of our Country
when a President actually mingles with people who
are in need and not some scripted audience.
you could also dissect the Camp David Accord but
what Carter did was basically take a large populous Egypt off of Israels back and so Israel
now only has to look north and east at its enemies
Egypt has not sabre rattled for a very long time.
but then again you will get people who will say
the brook of Egypt is Israeli land and extends
into the Sinai.
Brook of Egypt
wow! Joe a Canadian Newsmax! will wonders never
cease! You have to admit very biased source but
thats okay ..just not mainstream.
Klaus Rohrich?? who is this guy Joe? one thing for sure ..meanspirited and hates
Jimmy Carter.
and why do they need donations ..surely they
can sell enough books and advertise..ohhhh it
is not a paper..which is fine ..they just give
that impression.
But good political ploy Joe..get a right-wing
Canadaian blog to attack Carter...hey keep the
Canadian opinions coming they are all welcomed.
I think that its great we have
Canadian views from the north.

Jimmy Carter was twice the president Ronald Reagan was: twice the inflation, twice the unemployment, and interest rates twice as high!!!

How about going back a bit to 1953 to the overthrow of the democratically elected Prime Minister of Iran, Dr. Mohammed Mossadegh? He was going to nationalize Iran's oil industry, so Operation Ajax (linkie) was executed with the help of the CIA (it's first overthrow of a democratically elected government - see Guatamale & Chile). The CIA established, um, freedom bases for the US funded guerillas in southern Iran.
The US & Great Britain put the Shah in power as a monarch. He denationalized the oil industry and soon US, Dutch and French oil companies had the oil contracts.
Then came the Iranian Revolution which ousted the Shah.
Shah facts (linkie) Exiled and ill, Jimmy Carter allowed him into the States for treatment of non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Perhaps this is what triggered the student revolutionaries to take over the US Embassy in Iran.
Maybe Reagan and Bush had secret negotiations with Iran for the release of the hostages or may be not. It has not been proven (could be really fortuitous timing for Reagan).
In 1982, the Reagan Administration removed Iraq from its official terrorist list freeing the way for Iraq to begin its arms build up with a $1.5 billion loan backed by the US Commodity Credit Corp. Reagan-Iraq linkie
In 1985 Reagan armed Iran - he secretly traded arms for hostages via the CIA, partly in hopes of helping the US hostages held in Lebanon and partly to finance the Contras (the terrorist organization trying to overthrow the Nicaraguan democratically elected president, Daniel Ortega) despite the Congressional prohibition against it. Linkie to Iran-Contra info
More on the Iran-Contra scandal
In the meantime, Reagan began to fund and the CIA to train and arm Islamic military groups to counter the Russians in Afghanistan.
Iraq arms continued to be built up during the Bush administration subsidized in part through American agricultural programs. They also received fed guaranteed loans through the Atlanta branch of the Banca Nazionale del Lavoro, or BNL.
