In scripture, it is only a public commitment. If Jesus turned water into wine at a wedding/marriage, how could you conceive of anything else?

So there are no private or secret weddings?

See if you can find one in scripture?

You stated "Marriage is a public announcement of dedication"
And I agree with that statement!

So, you're in effect saying that there is such a thing as gay marriage. Is that right?

I believe that every God ordained marriage should be gay!

Well, you just undid your argument. What is marriage according to the Scriptures?

Trying to be clever, or merely avoiding the logical conclusion?

The ceremony is an outward display of an inward commitment ... like baptism. The ceremony doesn’t make a couple married. Nor do the rings on fingers.

And the institution of marriage is a reflection of Christ and The Church.

That reflection being with any but one man and one woman is a false picture of the relationship Christ has with The Church. Literally a perversion.

    ED @Aaron

    One man ... one woman.

There is actually more to the ceremony than that. Without an actual exchange of vows in the presence of witnesses (public or private), no one enters into a marriage.

Very simple - marriage should be very happy!

I mean the typical pomp/circumstance. Yes, I realize there needs to be witnesses. (2?) ... but a couple can legitimately be married without a 5 digit ceremony.

I wish we’d get the govt out of the marriage businesses, but it seems that won’t happen until the ultimate Reconciliation.

I have made it very clear in the past- a marriage is between one (bio-born) male and one (bio-born) female.
Why is that so hard to understand?

No one here yet was willing to say that those who imagine themselves to be the opposite gender are in truth as they imagine, yet some are willing to say they can enter into covenant as they imagine and it becomes true because a government official said so.

Let me put the question to you another way . . .

Can a man become one flesh with another man?

It isn't. You just didn't come right out and say it. You appeared to be agreeing with Dave.

What did I not come out about and say?

What statement of Dave are you referring to?

In NY State - legally: From the State Health Dept Information on Getting Married in New York State
    What about the ceremony?
There is no particular form or ceremony required except that the parties must state in the presence of an authorized public official or authorized member of the clergy and at least one other witness that each takes the other as his or her spouse. There is no minimum age for a witness. However, in selecting a witness, choose at least one person who you feel would be competent to testify in a court proceeding as to what he or she witnessed.

AS far as what is marriage according to the Biible? I would say that Hebrews 13:4 sums it up
Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.

In the Bible, it was a ceremony. But State law still constitutes a legal marriage/wedding in fact.
