ELIZABETH, N.J. (AP) — A former leader of a black student group pleaded guilty Monday to creating a false public alarm by tweeting anonymous threats against fellow black college students last fall.

State prosecutors will recommend that Kayla McKelvey be sentenced to 90 days in jail and that she pay restitution of about $82,000 to cover the costs of the police response and heightened security at Kean University after the threats.

According to prosecutors, the 25-year-old McKelvey tweeted threats from a campus library because she wanted more people to attend the November 17, 2015, rally on racial issues. She then returned to the rally to tell people about the threats.

One tweet addressed to campus police read: "@kupolice I will kill all the blacks tonight, tomorrow and any other day if they go to Kean University."

The university increased security, and several law enforcement agencies were also alerted, including the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The threats also prompted a group of black ministers to call for Kean President Dawood Farahi to resign, saying the threats showed that he hadn't done enough to address racial tension on campus.

McKelvey and her attorney had sought to have her participate in a pretrial intervention program that would have allowed her to avoid jail. But a judge denied that request last week.

Her sentencing is scheduled for June 17.

The article describes something that is too often true, however your thread headline is false as a general statement. There is real racism, both personal and systemic.

Too often racial activists invent incidents or declare a problem where it doesn't exist in order to create a public persona and celebrity status. That's a human problem, not just a problem a problem with racial minorities who aspire to leadership.

I see it from time to time in religious circles, among preachers/pastors who want acclaim and power.

The headline is not false as it did not specifically mention any racism in general terms. However, the racism in general is done by all races and is not predominant among any.

The headline is stupid. And it's the pure ignorance and denial on matters of race by some white and black people that has folks proclaiming that their lives matter TOO in way of Black Lives Matter.

For someone to even imply that there is no racism because one person didn't tell the truth is ludicrous.

The headline as it appeared in the article reads:
Woman admits tweeting fake threats to fellow black students

Why not just use it instead of making up an inflammatory, untruthful one?

Hmm. Lying about threats to incite racial indignation and tensions against whites. Yup. HUGE racism right there. She should be charged with a hate crime and spend years in prison.

How about Black Homo pastor claims discrimination against the Liberal Company Whole Foods. Line them up and ***** them, that will end it. Or toss them off of buildings like the peaceful religion of islam. What till the musloms take over, then you will see discrimination.
