"The ongoing trade war President Donald Trump has waged against world powers, including some of our closest allies, doesn't show signs of slowing down.
Left in the fray: Companies, American workers and consumers.
The list of companies affected, either by planning to close plants, laying off employees, tossing out plans for new jobs or raising prices continues to grow."
Missouri
Mid-Continent Nail, laid off 60 workers; SEMO Box, said it would be laying off four temporary workers .
Washington
About 100 employees were laid off from REC Silicon
South Carolina
Tariffs could cost up to 4,000 new jobs at a new Volvo plant (not current jobs) but would prevent them from creating "as many jobs as we are planning."
Boy, I don't know if the country will survive! One hundred and sixty four workers lost their jobs! Two hundred thousand new jobs being created every month!
This complaining about this so called "trade war" doesn't make sense. the other companies layed tarriffs hundreds of times greater than what the US puts on their stuff coming into the country. Trump works to make it more fair and they want to complain. Doesn't make a lick of sense.
So what is currently happening is both the EU and China has agreed to renegotiate tarriffs as a result of what Trump is doing. Again their tarriffs are hundreds of times higher than what we impose.
Do you get that, in some cases hundreds of times higher than ours. This is a no brainer. This is why Trump has such a broad support because he is fighting for Americans again.
Would you rather we contiune to lose hundreds of billions of dollars every war in the trade war other nations have been laying on us? Its ok for them to tarrif us to financial ruin, but not other way around? And do you really thin aChina and Europe woill not want to part of the biigest economy on earth, ours?
Wikipedia, on the Tariff Act of 1930: The new tariff imposed an effective tax rate of 60% on more than 3,200 products and materials imported into the United States.
In contrast Trump's worst tariffs are targeted on selected Chinese products and are at 25%.
“So Bayard and Elliot found that of the 72 investigations filed in the U.S., negotiations were 'successful' less than 50 percent of the time," Baier said. "Of the 12 cases where the U.S. retaliated against foreign competition, success was achieved in only two of the 12 cases."
Tax cuts went into effect in February 2018. I believe 600,000 jobs were created Jan-Mar 2018 (and January was lousy, IIRC). If the pace continues we'll blow past Obama's 2016 numbers by end of October.
