Hong Kong Legislators Pass ‘Patriotic’ Oath Law Hong Kong Legislators Pass 'Patriotic' Oath Law

The law is widely expected to further stifle democratic opposition in the global financial hub, extending oath-taking requirements to community level district councils that are dominated by pro-democracy politicians following a landslide win in November 2019.
I suspect snip President Biden will try something similar in the name of health.

How is this different than legislators making the Pledge of Allegiance mandatory in schools or the playing of the National Anthem mandatory before sporting events?
Every human government demands its people pledge allegiance and be patriots. It is a means of propaganda to get citizens to fight for the motherland.
As Christians we are exiles in this world, no longer citizens bound by a human government. It is one reason why Christians suffer persecution in many nations.

I doubt it will come to that with the DNC. They seem to be taking an opposite direction at this time. In the future, perhaps, but not during Biden's Administration.

The danger of this administration is setting the stage for future administrations.

I think Canada and their legislation of public speech (calling transgender persons by their chosen pronoun or facing fines) may be a better immediate concern. We see this to a degree with "hate speech".

One is truly a pledge of allegiance, allegiance to truth and justice and liberty, and the other is oppression. A government that bears the sword against believers especially is not a legitimate government and holds no true authority, only power.

But here again is the attempt to pacify resistance to tyrany with the mask of devotion.

Here is your own words. See the bold.
Jon didn't change any words. He just removed the material before those words. I have not read where that is wrong.

:RolleyesStar-Spangled Banner before sporting events? Not government mandated. Pledge of Allegiance in schools? Not required from objectors. Fight for the motherland? "We haven't had that spirit here since 1969." OK, '73. We do have Selective Service, but zero training. Propaganda? They're making it mandatory for officeholders.

Better question: "How is their oath requirement different from any other totalitarian state run by a single party—the communist party—requiring a loyalty oath to that one-party—the communist party—regime?"

Answer: "None." We're fast moving closer to the same. If the Dems have their way, those who survive will get to experience the difference firsthand, with some real persecution.

    From the article:
Erick Tsang Kwok-wai, Hong Kong’s Secretary for Mainland and Constitutional Affairs, said at the time that officials and politicians “cannot say that you are patriotic but you do not love the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party or you do not respect it—this does not make sense.”

“Patriotism is holistic love,” he said.

There. That's how it's done, if one is going to be honest about it.

Which were evil, illegitimate governments, and which, if Christians had the power to do so, Christiand would be justified in overthrowing them.

    Partly correct.

Christians are not justified in overthrowing evil governments. Scripture tells us that none are righteous except they be righteous in Christ. By definition secular government is of the world (a worldly power and evil).

We are not called to overthrow governments but to carry forward the ministry of reconciliation. This is a plea to men, not to governments.

What was snipped? Did you make a disparaging statement about President Biden that the moderators removed? I know that many folks were edited and banned for comments disparaging President Trump. Should it be different because the President is from the Democratic Party?

And how would you know this? You only joined in 2020, but you’ve been very busy here since then, yet you still have time to lecture people here to get off their computer, & cell phone & do something positive. Dichotomy. Amusing.

The moderators here have been very good in my opinion, with one exception. I have called him on it, but he enjoys his position & will likely continue to be a poor moderator. Such is life.

Life, brother, is always that way. People will have different perspectives, different agendas, and different worldviews. Some will be saved, some lost, some think they are saved but will hear those words "I never knew you".

I found long ago the best practice is individual faithfulness. We should be concerned about other people, but if we are individually faithful that concern will be a natural part of our lives. But we should expect the world to be hostile to God, and, by virtue of our adoption, hostile to those of us who believe.

The Brethren (all of the saved) are brothers in Christ. We are respectful to one another, love one another, uplift one another, ect. This is a marked difference between the flesh (accusations, back bitting, slander, pride, ambition, ect.). In the end this is how we (those of us who are saved) are distinguished from the world.

Words without action are worthless. Many seem to spend their lives online while life (and opportunity) passes them by.

I do not have the issue of lingering all week online (I work 44 hours a week in a facility where electronics are not allowed). But I do know people who "live" their lives online. That said, for some that is all they have (some are handicapped in one way or another).

    Yep.

Disparaging comments about the President will be edited if against President Biden just like they were with President Trump.

Some forget this is a Christian board, thinking instead this is a political board belonging to their chosen party.

Personally, I am far from happy with Biden being President, but my happiness is not the criteria here.

Calvinists will insist God predestined Biden to be President. I am not a Calvinist, but I do believe no government exists except God ordain it to come to be.

Prose & poetry. If you read what you write you may find it tinged with judgementalism. You lump yourself into the saved while casting aspersions. You may be a fine Christian, but you will never be a good moderator.

    Prose & poerty??? I guess I'm a poet and I don't even know it.

My point is that we should not expect the world to love us. If it does then something is wrong.

As far as the moderator comment, I am not sure why you attack me, but I'm sure I am not perfect.

That said, I will delete and edit posts that are in violation. I know people will not like it, and to be fair there are times I do not agree with the standard of the BB. But it is not my board. I keep it simple - violation = edit or delete. Warning points given only for the obstinate & obscene.

I know you are mad at me for telling you to stop attending to all the political sites you are looking at. I don't apologize for admonishing you to go do something else. Those websites, news broadcasts and youtube videos are causing you to lose sight of your first calling, which is to be an ambassador of reconciliation, calling people to reconcile with your King, Jesus.

The Kingdom will not be ushered in by Fox News and fear of the unsaved. It will come when God chooses to return. Will be faithful and ready when he returns?

Stop watching and feeding your mind with politics. It's not healthy.

This was something I realized over the past year as I was working from home. I had the TV on for noise, but politics has a way of drawing people in. While not Christian, some of the political positions are close enough (minus Christ) to grab your attention.

I wouldn't worry about Wingman being mad at you. Apparent he's offended by me for some reason. I cannot be offended (that assumes a relationship which does not exist). But today people are offended at the drop of a hat. Victimization is the in thing.

Did ChurchMouseGuy have any warning points? Just curious. Obstinance? Hahahaha. Like you said, not your board, but whoever came up with that one needs to reevaluate that rule. That’s a four lane highway to eliminating anyone here, at the moderators discretion, of course.
