Jer 12:9
Mine heritage is unto me as a speckled bird, the birds round about are against her; come ye, assemble all the beasts of the field, come to devour.
One of my favorite verses in the OT, because of the old, old song, "the great speckled bird". Which of you have a special place in your heart because of the old song?
Which of you agree that the verse is a shadow of the New Testemant Church?
Which of you like to feed the birds and do every day as I do? One of the most wonderful things God has allowed me to do in my life is to feed the birds. I enjoy it immensely.
Thanks -----Bart

Hey BroBart! I like your title. It reminds me of my place, haha. I made the "mistake" of feeding the wildbirds, & other kinds have come to "adopt" me over the years...from a canadian goose to some guineas.
Now I find it very restful to feed them & just sit and watch the different ones come-like the woodpeckers. I can hear the whipporwill, but haven't spotted it yet.
I love the book of Jeremiah. It has helped me many times, but I've never really tho't about what the speckled bird represented; yes, I can see it as the N.T. Church. Reading your post got me to thinking about that old song I first heard over 40yrs. ago, so I went on a "search" & here's what I found. Thanks fer the memories.
Great Speckled Bird Lyrics
(by Roy Acuff)
What a beautiful thought I am thinking concerning a great speckled bird
Remember her name is recorded on the pages of Gods' Holy Word
With all the other birds flocking round her, she is so despised by the squad
The Great Speckled Bird is the Bible representing the Great Church of God
Desiring to lower her standards they watch every move that she makes
They long to find fault with her teaching but really they find no mistakes
I am glad I have learned of her meekness I am proud that my name is on her book
For I want to be one never fearing the face of my Saviour's true love
When he cometh descending from heaven on the clouds as he writes in his words
I'll be joyfully carried to meet him on the wings of that great speckled bird -
HI Bart, I have 3 gazebo hanging feeders and a perch feeder. I also feed the chipmunks and squirrels.
We have the usual Blue Jays, Cardinals, Robins, Mourning Doves and also have Brownheaded Cowbirds, Grossbeaks, Goldfinch, Eastern Blue Bird, Indigo Bunting (my favorite), Titmouse, and more. We get a few hummingbirds...
We had 9 squirrels and 5 chipmunks last year. I assume we'll have the same or more this year. Pretty good for a subdivision!
I LOVE feeding the birds! I also love Butterflies!

Hey Diane! I love butterflies too-'specially the orange ones. Daughter Robin(Farmer's Wife) has always collected them.

Granny, the orange Monarchs are very special. They fly to Puerto Rico and winter there. Last year a rare freeze/ snow killed millions and millions. Butterflies usually only live a very short time but the last ones of the season live all winter! They know exactly where to go for the winter even tho they never know their parents or have others to lead the way.... the hand of God shows them where to go! Isn't that amazing!

Speaking of wild birds, we've been feeding the wild turkeys...
