TEHRAN, Iran — A top Revolutionary Guards commander said Tuesday that Israel would be Iran's first retaliatory target in response to any U.S. attack, a provocative threat that reinforced the Iranian president's past call for Israel to be "wiped off the map."
"We have announced that wherever (in Iran) America does make any mischief, the first place we target will be Israel," the Iranian Student News Agency quoted Gen. Mohammad Ebrahim Dehghani as saying.
Dehghani, a top commander of the elite Revolutionary Guards, also said Israel was not prepared to go to war against Iran.
"We will definitely resist...U.S. B-52 (bombers)," Dehghani was quoted as saying.
U.S. President George W. Bush has said a military option remained on the table if Iran did not agree to international demands for it to stop enriching uranium and open its nuclear program to inspections.
Israeli elder statesman Shimon Peres called on Iran to scrap its nuclear program and warned: "Remember that Israel is exceptionally strong and knows how to defend itself."

UNITED NATIONS - The United States, Britain and France are pushing for sanctions if
Iran continues to defy demands that it halt uranium enrichment — but not the sweeping economic and military embargoes imposed on
Iraq after its 1990 invasion of Kuwait.
What the
U.N. Security Council's three veto-wielding Western members aim for are targeted sanctions, such as restricting trade in equipment with both civilian and military uses and banning travel and freezing the assets of Iranians who oversee the country's nuclear program.
U.N. sanctions imposed on
Saddam Hussein's regime banned all Iraqi imports and exports, except food and medicine, and authorized inspections of shipments in and out of Iraq to verify their cargo. The sanctions halted legal oil exports from Iraq, a major producer with the world's second-largest reserves.
"The general idea we have on Iran is more targeted sanctions aimed at specific individuals responsible for the nuclear program, and the country's direction of the nuclear program," U.S. Ambassador John Bolton said in a recent interview.
Bolton said targeted sanctions would also likely include "restricting trade in dual use and other sensitive items."
He didn't rule out tougher sanctions at some future date.

Of course they don't want us involved...
We attacking them wouldn't inspire the level of jihad that an Israeli arrack would have...
So, if they can threaten us off long enough to get Israel to attack then they get their way and have an all out jihad against Israel...
Of course if anyone holds off long enough to allow them to get a Nuke... All bets are off...
? Who's going to blink, first?

Iran has not violated the Non-Proliferation Treaty.
Iran cannot build a nuclear weapon without violating the NPT.
Unless proof is provided that Iran has violated the NPT then all of this bluster by the Bush administration is senseless and is costing us as much as $0.50/gal. at the gasoline pump.

Ken, you and I both know that this won't stop them.
I would say that military action in Iran is a foregone conclusion.

There is no "Blustering" by the Bush Administration. The concerns over Irans continued enrichment of Uranium (which is fact and admitted by the Psuedo-President of Iran)are shared by many nations not just us. It is the threats coming from the Psuedo-President of Iran that are driving up the oil prices. it helps to have your facts in line with you know....realtiy.

Hmmmph.
I just wonder under what circumstances Israel would NOT be an Iranian target . . .

Which for nuclear energy use is not a violation of the NPT.
If Iran violates the NPT then it would be a cause for concern(at least Iran signed the NPT which is more than Israel has done, by the way).
Otherwise, this talk is just bluster by the Bush administration and other nations.
And it is costing us up to $0.50/gal. at the gasoline pump.

I pray that you are incorrect in your assessment, brother.
